Deaths in the Electronic Age

Obituaries for websites.

When you read someone's blog for a long time, it's always sad when they decide it's time to throw in the towel. Recently, sourcreamzengarden and Egomaniac.nu, two blogs that I read on a regular basis, passed away. Sometimes the sites are resurrected as entirely different entities, yet I always find it interesting how people choose to say good-bye. Jamison's good-bye is sad. I didn't know him, but I wish him well. He's certainly not alone with his struggles and I hope he gets help. Other bloggers get tired of the daily upheaval of personal bullshit, the struggle to come up with "content". Others simply fade away in an obvious parade of disinterest, and others disappear suddenly without notice. I guess obituaries for websites are appropriate, since sites often take on very distinct lives of their own.
