During the first half of the year I was getting up really early to go to the gym before work, sometimes around 5:30 am. If I got up early enough I was able to beat the morning rush hour on normally packed Santa Monica Boulevard. I took this picture on January 14, at 7:52 am (guess it was one of those cold winter mornings I just couldn't get out of bed). We do have a kind of winter in Los Angeles, and this morning it was manifesting itself in a cool, wet fog that blanketed everything.
The digital camera I bought last year (a Canon PowerShot S40) transformed my life. I can't begin to express the satisfaction it gives me to take pictures of anything and everything. I'm hoping to upgrade to a Canon EOS Rebel sometime soon (though it's harder to cart around). Since I'm fairly busy at the moment and not sure how much I'm going to be posting I thought I'd do a series of posts on my favorite 15 shots I've taken with the camera this year, with some comment on each. So, coming soon, the first of these images.
