road.jpg Active Duty Lieutenant Colonel at West Point calls for end to gay ban in military in Army Times:

"Many will say that homosexual practice violates “good order and discipline” in the military; therefore, homosexuals in uniform threaten the national defense. This argument claims that “military necessity” justifies treating gay and lesbian Americans as less than full citizens. This is the same reasoning that once kept out women and blacks. The military did not like being ordered to integrate, but the government said it must. It is time for the government to do the same with homosexuals. Congress should change the law that imposes the gay ban."

  1. Good for him, I guess... except for the part where he equates homosexuals with "adulterers, gamblers, drinkers, smokers, sex workers, and sex customers."

  2. He's not equating homosexuals with adulterers, gamblers, drinkers, etc... It'sjust an example to show how other "sinful" activities are not reasons to keep someone from military service. He's trying to make the point that just because some people don't like homosexuality, it shouldn't be a reason to keep homosexuals out of the military. It's like as if you couldn't get into the loft party because you were wearing a flannel shirt & jeans.
    Wait a minute....

  3. hell, homosexuals are adulterers, gamblers, drinkers, smokers, sex workers, and sex customers. If he doesnt say it, i will.

  4. Scott, you missed the point. He doesn't "equate homosexuals" with adulterers,etc... He's heroically saying that taking the logic that homosexuality is sinful justifies discriminating against all sinners. He only then lists what could be considered by some as sinful. I just think its sad that we as gays cannot accept the magnitude of this statement by this Lieutant Cononel without making some kind of bitter point against it. Again, this is a LIEUTANANT COLONEL AT WEST POINT, in the ARMY TIMES! We should be carrying this man on our shoulders, not diminishing his words.

  5. Steve, I agree with you. And, we should "pray"
that he is not punished nor discriminated against for expressing such a forward-thinking opinion in the Army.

  6. "adulterers, gamblers, drinkers, smokers, sex workers, and sex customers." Gosh, I thought Reichen went to the Air Force Academy, not West Point..... :-0
