Friends say murder of Jason Gage in Waterloo, Iowa resembles Matthew Shepard case. Gage was found two weeks ago murdered in his apartment, bludgeoned by a bottle and stabbed by shards of glass. Joseph Lawrence, 23, has been arrested and his fiancee claims that he was defending himself against Gage's sexual advances. Town mourns.

Hey Andy - The Today Show reported on a terrible "dragging" incident in New Mexico that was likely racially motivated. Horrible story yes, but it got me thinking about the brutal gay bashing recently in Santa Fe and how this crime was not picked up nationally.

From the sound of that story, I'd be willing to bet that the "straight guy" (who had "gay friends" and "went to gay bars") maybe gave in to the "sexual advances" and then freaked and commited this crime to keep from being exposed...(?)

He sat in front of me in Geometry. He used to make the teacher laugh but more out of perplexity than amusement. That struck me because in a narrow-minded little Iowa farm town it’s neat that you can force people to relate to you on your terms. He was a pretty cool guy. I'm sad that I didn't know he was gay. I'm horrified by what happened.

Billy (aka "Cliff Rhodes")...WOOF, BABY! That boy teased us on his PG-rated blog with the occassional shirtless picture, or one with just a towel wrapped around his waist.

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who's posted something regarding my friend Jason Gage, or anyone who has taken the time to learn more about his murder. He was a good friend of mine, someone I loved dearly and will miss forever. We have set up a non-profit scholarship fund in his name and have planned a benefit for him on April 10th, in Waterloo, Ia. If anyone would like to learn more about this, please feel free to contact me at anytime. I would love to hear from everyone out there and we, as a community of friends and people who loved Jason, will not let his legacy die.
