But I wonder how happy they are as opposed to how happy they're told to be.

FUNNY! It reminded me of when a "Texan "friend" from college tried to convince to "change" via Christianity when I told her I was gay... Since, I didn't, she stopped talking to me! HA!
She's probably married to a gay closeted minister now. :-)

I wouldn't be surprised if these signs were outside the South. A few months ago the PFOX people (parents and friends of ex-gays) did a huge billboard campaign in the Washington DC area. Actually it makes a lot of sense that these sorts of signs would be placed in areas where lots of gays live clustered together... places like big cities on the east coast.

I live in Texas but have yet to see one of these. Thankfully, I live in Austin - the oasis of open mindedness in a sea of conservatism - so I probably won't stumble across one until I drive out of town.
