  1. I've said it before and I'll say it again. Buying a Mac is like pissing in Bill Gates' mouth (in the bad way).

  2. Andd! Let's be real about it. What do you think you can you actually accomplish. Get over it. Microsoft is a state of mind, a conglomerate.
They changed their stand on an issue. And?
I guess now torches will be lit.

  3. If you've never worked in the legislative arena then I imagine it's tough to believe that a single company can have sway over the process. Believe me, a single company can and often does have enough political capital to influence not only whether something passes or not, but what it says or does not say, particularly when that company is one of the largest single employers in the state in question.

Like it or not, that's a fact.

  4. I have to say I am shocked by this. I worked for Microsoft for 14 years and rose through the company to a high level executive position before retiring. All the while being very open about my sexuality. It was something that never hurt me (I swear it helped me in some regards). I have put out a call to former co-workers to see what the internal reaction is to this and so far nothing is coming back (I am guessing as with hot issues they are keeping check on "outside" discussions). Something is not right about this though, they were one of the first companies to offer domestic partner benefits (in 1987), gay adoption assistance, 100% HIV treatment reimbursement and added sexual orientation to all company literature. Additionally they have an internal diversity council with membership in the thousands to educate and ensure non-discrimiation within the company (well over half of that group is GLTB). I hope they do make a statement soon, again as an insider who can complain about many things from my years there, this was something I thought would NEVER be an issue.

  5. I'm so happy that I've always worked on a Mac. Now if someone could just come up with a viable replacement for MSWord...

  6. I suspect there's something else going on that we don't know about, as nativeokie has said.

  9. Just out of curiosity, what is Apple's position on this issue....and are they openly supportive of gay rights legislation? I only ask because I have read several comments from people wanting to dump Microsoft for Apple over this issue, and yet I personally don't know if Apple would behave any better. Anyone ?

  10. PATRICK: Well, to give you an idea of Apple's gay rights policy, they have their own GLBT Employee Association called "Apple Lambda".
