New Paltz mayor Jason West talks about his decision to marry 25 same-sex couples last year: Our constitution says you can't discriminate. If I tell them, 'I can't marry you simply because of your gender,' it's a clear violation of the constitution. I wasn't going to be complicit in that violation. I didn't go into [the] office and pick a big national issue to tackle. This was just one issue that I saw I could affect as a mayor."
Matt Drudge: "No, I'm not gay." Aravosis at AmericaBlog says not so fast, citing a passage from David Brock's book Blinded by the Right in which Brock describes a night out with the original blogger: "After dinner at the famed West Hollywood restaurant Dan Tana's, he suggested we go bar hopping along the gay strip on Santa Monica Boulevard, which Drudge navigated like a pro."
Paul Rudnick's Living Will: "Even if I remain in a persistent vegetative state for more than fifteen years, that still doesn’t mean bangs."

why is it that supposedly straight people think it is convincing to say "i'm not gay, i was (almost) married once" as if that were a true test of heterosexuality. sorry, matt, you're going to have to do better than that.

Oh my dears....
I happen to know y way around straight Hollywood and West Hollywood...does that make me straight? There's a point where incessant finger pointing and stealth desire to make everyone gay simply has to have proof. In this day in age, everyone leaves footprints as to where they have been on the internet, etc...just l;ike that poor outed guy on American Idol....if your gay, someone is gonna find out..not that someone was seen in in a gay bar, can you really blame celebrities for being paranoid when just one's presence hints at some dishonesty about their sexual persuasion?

Yo, I'm not gay either, not at all.
Just love looking at go-go boys and going to the gym and wrestling and 2xist and brunch. Things like that. (shaking head) He cracks me up.

I can't figure out why people call Drudge a journalist. He published a daily list of links to interesting news stories. And if his site really receives the traffic he claims and he only earns the annual figure cited by that article, then he's a terrible businessman.

DRUDGE - true, naviagating gay bars isn't evidence of your sexual orientation. ALMOST marrying (or even actually marrying) isn't evidence that you are not gay, either. And there are pelenty of men who have sex with men who don't consider themselves "gay" - as they associate taht word with people they don't like - whether its liberals, "politicxally correct" folks, PWA's, whatever. The guy is an asshole, plain and simple - so if indeed he is gay, I would respectfully request that the man stay in the closet!

Another great bit from Brock:
In the days before Blinded by the Right hit the stores, I learned that throughout the conservative momvement, galley pages were being faxed around furiously. First up was internet gossip Matt Drudge, who denied to New York Daily News columnist George Rush my contention that Druge had hit on me in a Los Angeles gay bar and sent me a sexually suggestive e-mail. When Rush called me, he huffed and puffed as if he had a big story. I offered to fax the skeptical Rush a copy of the Drudge e-mail and then stuck it through the machine. Rush decided not to write the item after all.
(From the preface to the paperback version.)
Brock's book makes a great read, even if you're not very into politics. It's a very personal account about what the noise machine looked like from the inside. It's pretty interesting to read what was going on in his mind throughout that journey.
Plus Bock is a total cutie with the right photographer... same for Jason West.
