Eight Cut or Uncut?
Internet movie boards are rife with speculation about Warner's apparent decision to release only a Director's Cut of Oliver Stone's Alexander here in the U.S. on August 2nd while international versions will include the theatrical release.
Why the brouhaha? The Director's Cut is rumored to be eight minutes shorter than the theatrical version. According to some reports, the Theatrical Cut runtime is listed at 175 minutes while the Director's Cut runtime (usually plumped by extra scenes we didn't get to see) is listed at 167 minutes. Speculation is rife that the studio has further omitted portions of the gay storyline in order to attract more red state consumers.
So how much footage would have to be cut to eliminate scenes with gay-oriented content already in the film? Only about eight minutes.

Well, that's awful news. I'm just glad I have an all-region PAL/NTSC DVD player. I guess I may have to order one of the DVDs released in Britain or elsewhere. It's absurd that a director's cut would be SHORTER than the original theatrical release.

Oh, well. Someday someone will have the balls to make a movie about how Alexander and Haephastion saw themselves as Achilles and Patroculus reborn....with all the naughty-bits of both relationships left-in. Even without the "ChiChi LaRue-footage", it would be a scenery-chewer with the right director. The ghosts of the (all-gay) Theban band that Alexander destroyed-to-the-last-man could serve as the Greek Chorus.
Bravo-TV could do it as a mini-series.

Oh, who cares! That movie blows with or without the gay storyline.

Wow, what a waste of film.

Andy, your worries are unfounded. There will be a director's cut that is shorter but the theatrical version is also coming out on DVD. See http://www.digitalbits.com/#mytwocents

Hey ,
I live in Belgium and rented the DVD yesterday...I can tell you that there is a big difference with what I saw in the movies...all the gay stuff is gone...even in Europe...I can tell you now...It won''t sell. The only extra on the DVD is a national geographic thing about alexander ... ?????
