Aloha and Mahalo

Hawaii8

I've received more photos from Towleroad correspondent Alan L. boyspotting at Waikiki Beach so I've just combined them all in one post. He sends these photos from the shores of Oahu that feature the pool boy at the Halekulani Hotel, a crystal clear view of Diamond Head, and plenty of boys in the sand.

  9. Why do young men insist on wearing culottes instead of shorts? Show off those legs, boys! Come into the 21st century and lose that gangsta rap look.

  12. What's the next beach look for the hetero boys? Burkhas? Victorian one-piece wool suits?

  13. Board shorts are SO MUCH HOTTER and SEXIER than those nasty thong/speedo things that all of the ugly Europeans and South Americans wear. It so much hotter to leave more to the imagination than wrapping it tightly with a piece of denta floss.

    Posted by: Steve | Jun 18, 2005 6:23:37 PM

  14. Speedos can be hot too, but those guys are hot

  15. Very hot men, extremely stupid style trend. We need something better than these fucking Capri pants young men wear today.

  16. "hotter to leave more to the imagination than wrapping it tightly with a piece of denta floss."

From one extreme to another, but puhleeze, it's not like we don't know what male thighs look like.

  17. Uh, guys, those aren't Capri pants. They're called surf shorts, and for a reason. In Hawaii we don't just pose at the beach, we actually get in the ocean and we really live at the beach. Surf shorts are great; they stay on in high surf, they have pockets, and they protect your thighs when surfing. And while our local boys are some of the hottest in the world, there is also a sense of good old-fashioned modesty in these islands which comes from the Polynesian and Asian cultures. And after living here and dating these guys for many years, I have come to love that sound of ripping velcro as the surf shorts come off.

  18. All I know is, if "Mahalo" means "climb on my plump, black-clad ass" in the first picture, I'm THERE.

  19. Yum Yum Yum.... We will be there in about a month for a couple of weeks. Thanks for the teaser.

  21. I'm glad you guys like the pix I shot. I'm home now. I've taken beach shots like that for more than a dozen years, every time I go to Hawaii. I get bored just laying in the sun, so I walk around with my camera. I have hundreds more such photos (back to the days when the guys DIDN'T wear baggy swimsuits that are just 3 inches short of being pants). Someday maybe I can put them all on a web site. I can't bother Andy to put them all up here, there are far too many. Anyway, happy to share these with all of you.

  22. If everyone was smiling, it'd look just like an Old Navy commercial. Hot, but creepy.

  23. "Uh, guys, those aren't Capri pants. They're called surf shorts, and for a reason."

[Sigh] Sarcasm is dead in the Bush era.

  24. "Hideous puritanical American bathing costumes. Horrid!"

Posted by: Bongo at June 17, 2005 07:37 PM

Horrid, yes, but baggy, unflattering attire is not a product of puritanical influences, rather it is a product of styles directly connected to the rap/hip-hop music culture heavily promoted by record labels and purveyors of pop culture. In other words, rich folks cashing in on our youth and their ignorance.

Hey, if the style came about on its own accord, fine. But it didn't. This ain't the counter culture '60's anymore. Kids today are told baggy pants and cRAPpy music are what they want. They believe it because they are the most impressionable and simplest minds to capture.

With all due respect, please check out The Merchants of Cool to understand more about this:

You'll probably be happy to know I'm shutting my trap concerning this subject only to continue enjoying the beauty of the male physique...however pathetically it is dressed.

    Ciao.

  25. My then boyfriend and I use to spontaneously jump in the car at about 3 p.m.. on a hot Thursday before a long weekend and say where do you want to go East, West, North or South?. One Thursday we decided to make it our mission to see the ocean.

From Toronto, this had meant traveling east.

After about 3 hours, near Kingston, we needed to decide to stay in Canada or head southward into the U.S.

Boston was about 12 hours drive (landing us there about 3 am.

We continued onward and landed in P Town around 4:30 or 5 am.

We had no reservations so e went from small inn to small inn knocking on doors trying to find a room to rent for only 2 evenings. We often awoke the inn keep.

After a couple nights and fun filled days and hopping from afternoon T dance, to dinner, to cruising and being cruised in the bars, we stammered home.

We returned once more several years later and got to indulge ourselves in both 2 nights in P Town ( thank you Alfie from San Fran and working in the hot bar for that summer!!!) and almost more relaxed 2 weeks on the Vineyard providing a picturesque setting of beauty (both physical and geographic). Fortunately, I have the pics to remind me .

On Sunday, we jumped back in the car and made it home at our desks on Tuesday mornings .

I know P Town will change. My memories of it however, can never be bulldozed.

Still, I;m sad reading of the changes and comforted only by a part of it that can't change. For, as long as we have our anecdotes, blogs and pics remain, P town will always be pure summer pleasure to those of us who have been fortunate enough to have seen it as it once was
