Prepare to be Capoted

The coming year will bring not one but two Truman Capote-inspired big screen epics. You can view some stills from the first, Capote, starring Phillip Seymour Hoffman, here.

I can't think of a more perfect choice of someone to play Capote than PSH. Can't wait to see it.

Hoffman was born to play Capote. I wonder how they'll portray Capote's sexuality? ..As simply a fact of his life, enjoy the pretty boys and his long-term relationship at the same-time? Or as some tragic-flaw that contributed to his "decline"?
As a young man, I always enjoyed his guest-spots in talk TV, he never pulled any punches...including his personal life. On national TV he launch into, "...there was this dahling boy in Key West that I was interetsed in...." and make it part of the overal story he was telling. I would not place Capote as a role-model of mine, since I was put-off by the "sillyness" and the flamboyance; but I respected his candor and willingness to never hide. You never laughed at him, only with him, when things went wonky...

I always remember him from a movie, Murder By Death...he was hysterical in it!

But it is his writing that is the best part of who he was. I remember him on Dick Cavett near the end when he was slipping away it my mother and I very sad, because she loved his writing as much as her son did. I think he died while staying with Johnny Carson's first wife in LA.

Is this film based on the Gerald Clark (?) biography? Should be good. Hoffman looks perfect. Hope it doesn't stray into unintentional parody, though that's probably almost impossible to prevent with Capote, especially when you're dealing with the last years.
