John was in rare form last night! I sat and laughed until I was crying...even had to record parts because I was laughing so hard I couldn't hear the next line...catch the rerun at 11:30pm Eastern tonight if you missed it.

Stewart is so dreamy.
I still cannot believe how the judicial system works these days. I can't believe people are being arrested and imprisoned for something as minor as smoking a joint and here Jackson is committing crimes that are truly disturbing.

I think this article at Slate might have you change your tune...

Huma,
I would have to say to Michael and his supporters, B-O-O H-O-O...Poor Michael, made a slave by his father, abused, driven...it's no wonder he sleeps with young boys! WHAT?? Do I believe he's having sex with young boys, probably not. Do I think he's deranged for sleeping with them? Absolutely! Perception is EVERYTHING, and if you were sleeping with boys then people would believe the same thing. But to blame it all on his childhood is just stupid in my opinion. I had a rough childhood too, one that didn't include millions of dollars, but I'm not sleeping with small children. Everyone has demons and everyone has a story to tell...but not everyone acts in the freakish way that Mr. Jackson does. The only excuse for him is that he needs to let go of his past, identify who HE is and move on with an adult life.
I understand how many people believe he got a bad wrap by being labled a pedophile, but I will NEVER understand why excuses are made for his behavior...it's his to change and he has chosen not to.

I wonder if people would make excuses for him if he was not Michael Jackson. Good comments as usual Wayne.
My childhood was far from a bowl of cherries (I had hoped my parents would send me to the childrens home - it could not have been any more emotionally abusive) and I grew up and settled into domestic partnership with an adult.
I don't care how loving or caring you think you are you do not sleep with children. No matter who you are there is no excuse.

Yes, yes, yes, you're all right - he should have gotten convicted. But when the streets around me started blaring "Beat It!" and "ABC" after the verdicts were read, I couldn't help but smile.
Oh, and by the way, if you want to murder someone or feel up a kid, come to California. You can't smoke in a cafe here (dammit), but just about everything else is a-ok!

Wayne,
I agree with some of your points -- certainly Michael is an eccentric of Howard Hughes proportions, and could probably be a bit more accountable for his choices at 46. The Slate article provides necessary context to Michael's story, rather than justification, which I feel is needed when dealing with a media culture largely ignorant of marginalized individuals. Money and fame aside, Michael is/has been a marginalized individual in the environments where he was a "person" not a "celebrity." Mainly what I was responding to was the absurd idea that Michael is a "criminal," suggested by Ms. Wintoor's comment.
On the original subject of the post: As the Daily Show clip demonstrates, John Stewart/Steve Colbert are just that much more hysterical with the media/celebrity circus in the palm of their hands.

i really dont know. i personally can believe that a person can get totally screwed up by living in the spotlight since he was 5 year old. just look at britney spears "reality show" to witness how she totally stopped evolving emotionally ever since she hit the hollywood circus.
that might be a bit too far fetched, i grant you that, but having been close to how the media machine works, and also how much of a weight is put upon you if you live kind of in the spotlight, i personally dont find it surprising that a person will snap at some point.
MJ never learned what it meant to lead a normal life, never had a normal childhood nor puberty. this might not excuse his actions nowadays, but makes them kind of comprehensible to me.
bleh. far too long comment with not enough subtance from me. i personally am glad he was found guilty and hope he can get some much deserved rest now.
