2005: A Space Odyssey

I had forgotten the chills I get watching the Space Shuttle take off. But witnessing the orbiter separate from the main fuel tank was amaaaazing. What a geek I am. Bravo!

Me Too!!
I just finished watching it on NASA tv online. I knew I had to stay long enough to see the take separate. I only wish they had kept that camera going longer. It would have been wild to have the tank camera watching the shuttle while the shuttle astronauts were inside taking pictures of the tank.

I agree completely. I never thought the camera shot would last that long. I felt like a kid watching my first shuttle launch again! Astro-Geeks unite!!! It was pretty amazing and a welcome departure from less positive current events.

Wow, what an awe-inspiring image! Especially with the word colorectal (one my alltime personal fav's) perfectly centered on the bottom of the screen. Thanks, CNN, for such a touching moment!

I too watched it on streaming video and it was awesome. I actually wanted them to leave the camera on while the tank burnt up on reentry.

God's speed to the astronauts!
I watched ABC News TV coverage and Charlie Gibson was talking to the head of the Columbia Investigation Board, as a commentator. The gentleman said that the external fuel tank camera was one of the Board recommendations to NASA.
Living in Dallas, I'll never forget sitting in my living room on that Saturday morning reading the paper and hearing/feeling the Columbia explosion...may those heroes rest in peace!

Even living out here in Orlando you can feel the pressure of the blast, it'll rattle your walls

I read once that when the five engines of the shuttle are all running, the total energy-output of the United States increases by 25% temporarily.
