New Robert Mapplethorpe exhibit opens at the Guggenheim. "The vital anatomical forms of his portraits of models, such as bodybuilder Lisa Lyons and the statuesque Derrick Cross, find their roots in antiquity, and in this exhibition find their mirror in such Mannerist prints as Jan Harmensz Muller's Rape of a Sabine Woman and Jacob Matham's Apollo." Gallery.
Gay Arizona fraternity adopts national charter — hopes other campus chapters will follow.
Rick Santorum gets some easy questions from the Washington Post. Steve Gilliard wonders "The Post had NO questions about his getting a free ride for homeschooling his kids, his wife's lawsuit, the Schiavo fundraising or his gay aide? Much less his rabidly homophobic comments. Why the hell not? They had ONE question about his blaming Boston for priestly pedophilia. Instead, people were treating his idiotic book like Dr. Phil wrote it. I wonder where the tons of hostile questions went, or did they just : 'avoid' them." Looks as if the Post's moderator may be Jeff Gannon.

WATCH "The Daily Show" tonite (Monday)!! John Stewart (God love him) has got Rick Santorum on as guest. John has already shown his ability to go for the throat (ask Tucker Carlson) . . . and I'm confident he'll do his best tonite to get that little shit Santorum to squirm.

What self-reverential, pretentious drivel about Mapplethorpe. It reads like satire of art criticism, like the stuffy couple commenting on "The Kramer" on "Seinfeld":
Woman: "I sense great vulnerability."
Man: "I see a parasite, a sexually depraved miscreant."
Woman: "His struggle is man's struggle."
Man: "He is a loathsome, offensive brute
--yet I can't look away."
Woman: "He transcends time and space."
Man: "He sickens me."
Woman: "I love it!"
Man: "I love it, too!"
Who curated this exhibit, The Cosmo himself?
Mapplethorpe could almost focus a camera, knew guys with big dicks with whom he skated the edges of Mandingoism, had taste in flowers, and, by pure chance, floated to the center of the concentric circles of New York City's Art Trash. "Roots in antiquity" my ass. He couldn't hold a flash bulb to even the worst photos by Dorothea Lange, Yousef Karsh, Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Ansel Adams, Alfred Eisendstaedt, et al. They were great photographers who shall be treasured for the ages. He was just a minor scandal who is collected and merchandized. Minus the big dicks, minus the scandal and even that wouldn't be happening.

To be fair, "The Post" wasn't asking those questions, but from anyone who was logged on to that chat. Washingtonpost.com did have editorial control on there, however, and it astounds me that people on that chat didn't fire more substantial salvos than those. I'm sure he agreed to the chat only if he received relative softballs.

Just watched Jon Stewart gently hold Rick Santorum’s feet to the fire. It is sad that Comedy Central is one of the few news outlets today confronting ideologues and hate mongers. Beneath the Senator’s polite words tonight was the clear belief that gay people are immoral and inferior to heterosexuals. You must have very low self-esteem to be the press secretary or work in any way for a politician like this. Yes, some gay people, like others, will sell their souls for power.

That half-life ad, blinking constantly, is super distracting.

The Daily Show was WAY too easy on Santorum...and I have to say I was hoping for a mention of the new definition of "Santorum" but Jon just wasn't up to the task. He lobbed some semi-hard questions at the Senator, but then quickly backed off or made like he was only joking...what a shame. Here was the perfect opportunity to nail this idiot and he gets off scott free.

The gay fraternity in AZ is not the first by any means. Delta Lambda Phi is a national fraternity created by gay men for all men and was founded in 1986. There are currently 23 chapters nationwide and 10 colonies in the process of becoming chapters. For more information, see www.dlp.org.
