Fuck gay marriage....I don't see whats the sudden interest of being exactly like straight people. Cant wait to live in Westcheser with my husband and have 2.8 kids..2 dogs and maybe a cat...Then my whole life will have meaning and value. Thanks Andy

Rocco, I totally disagree. For me it isn't an issue about trying to be like straight people, it's being equal to straight people. Homosexuals (or bisexuals) aren't inferior nor superior to heterosexuals but on an equal footing. gay marriage will not be a milestone in the straight world but for homosexuals looking to announce to society that their love and bond is so great, it deserves recognition. Moving to the suburbs having 2 kids and buying a dog is a straight thing, it's merely a lifestyle choice left for ANYONE (or at least those unaffectd by Capitalisms treachery) to reach.

I think the relevant question is: How many classes of citizenship should there be in the US? Or, for that matter, in any constitutional democracy?
Why should there be citizens who can marry and those who cannot?
We used to have citizens who could vote and those who could not. We used to have citizens who could own property and those who could not. We used to have citizens who could own other citizens! And there were Bible quoters to back that up too.

I can not see why you say Fuck gay marriage Rocco. Were it just to be married, I might agree. But I don't enjoy paying the highest rate of taxes because I can't get married. Or having to go through so many legal steps just to make sure my partner can visit me in the hospital should something terribel happen. And there are so many other things that come with being able to legally marry. You can choose NOT TO and that's ok. But I can't choose TO and there is the problem.

My partner and got married last May in Canada while both being Australians living in London. The reason? There was no real emotional one on my behalf - yes - my partner was in a small part self-justifying that he was on-par with his straight cousins. But more importantly - we wanted to ensure that we were able to enjoy the benefits that others who commit their lives to one another (i.e. different sex couples) do. The UK is set to move on this debate this year and I welcome it!

Unfortunately, Australia will not recognize your marriage in Canada. Let's hope England can move this issue forward with some common sense.
