Thank god!! That place was an eyesore and being accosted by the 17 year olds that hung out on the sidewalk was tiresome. Plus that queen Scott that owned the place is the worst. Sorry for the tirade. I'm sure it was a lovely place that will be missed by all.

I couldn't concur more. Truly hideous!

It's funny when this opened it was all the rage. Aahh the fickle finger of fate

I went to Big Cup at my heaviest weight. All the Chelsea Boys were there with their perfect bodies. Everyone ahead of me was asked if they were staying or going, and their order was handled based upon their answer i.e. paper cup or glass. When I got up to the counter I wasn't asked anything but my order, which was placed in a paper cup and thrust at me.

Andy, really now. "Phooey?"

Jeez, lay off the bitter pills. Big Cup may have attracted its share of "17-year-olds," but seeing as it will be another 4 years until these kids get into Barracuda or something, where should young gay men find each other and hang out instead? The community would be hurt less by the closing of another "tiresome" bar where you can be "accosted" by people your own age.

Wow, no love for Big Cup. It was what it was though, and there are no other places in the hood quite like it. And god-forbid it's replaced by Starbucks or a Banana Republic or something. Chelsea is so over anyway, it just remains as sort of a novelty. Not a bad place to live though.

I'll miss it. When I visited NY I always enjoyed reading the gaypers with a great latte. The staff were always friendly and the cakes were good too. I'm back in NY mid September, so where do you recommend for a morning break now?

Patrons with attitude? Check.
Expensive coffee? Check.
Grime? Check.
But still . . . there isn't any other place in Chelsea where 60-something journos, tweaked out queens, post-workout muscle boys and off-duty Chinese food delivery guys could hang out and get caffeinated.
Sure, you got the hairy eyeball from every last person sitting there everytime you walked in, but that was part of the fun. I'm going to miss this place a lot.

From reading most of these comments, I'd say we not only have a bitter community, but a short sighted one. I know we are being assimilated and accepted by more and more neighbors, but this place was one that defined identity in many ways.
Does anyone else see us losing an icon in our community? This place was somewhere to sit, read, talk, meet friends of ALL ages!! How soon we forget that young gay men and women found community there. Sure it had it's faults, but until I see another accessible alternative, it's a sad loss for New York.
