Westboro Baptist Reverend Fred Phelps plans trip to Sweden ("the cradle of all evil") in order to "hunt down" Swedish King Carl Gustaf. Phelps: "We'll hunt down your king. It doesn't make any difference where he tries to hide. You're doomed to spend eternity in hell. All you Swedes and your Swedish king and his family."

PLEASE let him go King hunting, and let the King pop a cap in his head while he's there! The Swede's are VERY protective of their Royal Family and it wouldn't surprise me a bit if they "off" Phelps while he's there...please please please let him go!

I took a summer course in psychology (easy credit!) and I asked our professor about how someone could come to be like Rev. Phelps.
Long story short, Professor thinks that either Phelps is a very intense self-loathing homosexual, or that he must have been severly sexually abused as a child.
Kinda makes you sad for a mmoment, until the douche bag says something like he did about Sweeden.
I'm with Wayne, I hope they bust a cap in his ass (no pun intended, hehe)

Fred Phelps needs to rot in hell already! I am always outraged when that lunatic makes the news. His antics he pulled during the Matthew Shepard killing/trial/5 year anniv. of his death pissed me off to no end. I loathe that man...

I agree with Wayne and Jason. The man's gotta be off his rocka, and maybe the Swedes could teach him a lesson or two.
Is the King very attractive? Maybe Phelps has a crush...

This story once again makes me wonder how the hell this inbred trailer trash manages to fly at the drop of the proverbial hat hither and yon? Has anyone every read anything reliable indicating where they get the money to do this so when their class usually has barely enough to buy Velveeta cheese and Wonderbread? It's not like he is remotely close to the Falwells, Robinsons, and James Kennedys of the world who wipe their asses on all the millions they make off of exploiting us.

What I want to know is why would Sweden honor his passport and allow him into their country? The Swedish government could easily classify him and his followers as a terrorist/security risk and deny him travel access.
We're stuck with him because he was born here, but they're lucky enough not to have to tolerate him.

Not sure why, but it always bugs me just a bit when people like Phelps are explained as possibly being a self-loathing homosexual. Is that always on the list of reasons to explain mental illness or just plain stupidity?
I just came back from Stockholm and it's a very beautiful city, populated by even more beautful people...his ugly soul certainly won't blend in.

The Phelps bunch is repugnant, ignorant, and absolutely horrifically damaged. But make no mistake... their lunacy has helped show conservative Americans what happens when you take their "garden-variety" homophobic bigotry to its logical conclusion. Sometimes the "heartland" needs to see their reflection in a fun house mirror, and I'm grateful to Phelps for providing that.
That said, I'd love to hear that he and his whole inbread clan were stomped to death by the Swedes.

They only need to let him into the country long enough to serve him an arrest warrant for sedition and threatening the king. Throw him in a prison for a few years making Ikea furniture for gay men everywhere. Sounds like cosmic comeuppance to me!

You know what makes Phelps the maddest? Being ignored. He can't stand that. He loves it when he gets people all worked up. Look, he's old, he'll be dead soon and then we can all go piss on his grave.

Let's start a fund to bribe Swedish airport security personnel to make him undergo a full body cavity search upon arrival and departure... Hehehee...

I like how Ray thinks!

I hope to GOD they let him in, THEN classify him as a terror suspect and make his ass rot in prison over there until he dies. That awful man needs a few years in a cell with a 6'8" man who loves his king.

Homophobes are called "self-loathing homosexuals" because it appears to be the biggest insult you can give someone who hates homosexuals...to accuse them of being one. I agree in that this "phrase" should be very carefully used, as there are self-loathing homosexuals out there, but we discredit ourselves by using the term too loose and as just an insult. It shouldn't be insulting to call someone a homosexual in any manner. Most people who hate and physically harm gay people are quite heterosexual.

Fred Phelps is ugly as sin; he is a butt of God's practical jokes. Only a self-loathing closet case would have such intense hatred towards gays. Who takes this dreadful waste of human tissues seriously? I'm sure some wilfully ignorant inbred rednecks in Kansas embrace him and his hateful rhetoric; they infest this world like malignant vermin and are beneath contempt. Sooner or later there will be a backlash against the extreme right evangelical movement. Pat Robertson's murderous comment, denial and admittance this week are causing a stir and getting a lot of attention. Americans will soon realize that these men of God are not spreading the gospel of love. On the contrary, they foster hate, intolerance and even death to those who don't beliieve their myopic views. Sounds like Christian Talibans. BOGUS RELIGION!

Maybe they have a guillotine in Sweden! I would love to see Fred Phelps head ROLL!
Posted by: dondon009 | Aug 26, 2005 6:31:34 PM
but don't you think that, Phelps is, in a way, a good thing to have happened? that his views are so *extreme* that he cannot be anything but a *liability* even to the far right? and that, as Brian pointed out, that he's the "logical conclusion" when homophobia is pushed to its limit?
perhaps with Phelps as a living embodiment of the extreme right, folks not as far out on the spectrum will come to see how pernicious, and untenable, their right-wing Christian ideology can be.

From my days in the UU pulpit, I remember researching Phelps when he was coming to protest Tampa Bay Pride. Believe it or not, he is a retired ACLU attorney that essentially popped a gasket one day. He raised his rather large family to be lawyers, as well, so essentially he makes sure that any loop hole is covered before he goes out to be the prick he has turned into. Sadder yet are his progeny are as hateful as he is, if not worse. He been breedin'.
Since there have been relatively few gay issues for him to picket, he has taken to picketing the funerals of the fallen Iraq GI's, claming that they died because his God was smiteing the US for being soft on gays. This guy is just a whacko.
Sweden? I agree with the comment that they would probably stop him at the border. Perhaps Pat Robertson can get some of his friends to pop a cap in this asshole?

I don't care what he does as long as he doesn't mess with my beloved Prince Carl Philip of Sweden.

These gay hating Christian Fundamentalists make me sick. Still I think BUNNY made a good comment about Fred Phelps being a liability to the hateful slime of humanity. Jesus was about love, peace and equality. These buggers are about the complete opposite.
