Brokebacktrailer

A fresh 2:14 minute version of the Brokeback Mountain trailer is online at CNN Showbiz. Here are a couple screenshots I don't remember seeing on ET's segment.

  1. Need to click the "More Entertainment Video" tab under the "Watch Free Video" section. It took me a little while to figure that one out.

  2. Sigh, it's going to be a crying movie isn't it?

  3. Thanks for letting me start my day with Jake...

That's a much better trailer. I won't be a spoiler, but I think the shirt sniffing scene (your second screen cap) is going to be a real tear-jerker.

  4. Has anyone read the book? Do you recommend it? Is a happy ending out of the question? Also, can anyone recommend a good, gay-themed movie that has a happy ending? Thanks.

  5. Great trailer. Anyone have a stand-alone version of it?

  6. The book (actually it's more of a short story or a novella) by Annie Proulx is amazing. Definitely recommended. For a good gay-themed movie with a happy ending the most recent one I'd recommend is Latter Days.

  7. Really, there actually is a gay movie with a happy ending?

    Saints preserve us.

  8. i don't know if you would describe Ang Lee's first, and also gay-themed, movie, 'The Wedding Banquet' as having a "happy ending", but it's certainly heart-warming.

  9. Hi, Andy--thanks for the recommendation. I have not seen Latter Days--I'll check it out. It seems to me that gay-themed movies generally fall into two catagories: One, good movie but sad, or two, just plain bad.

Suresh, I did see The Wedding Banquet but it was a long time ago and I don't remember it being bad but then again, it doesn't seem to be all that memorable either way.

Has anyone seen Big Eden? Was it worth seeing?

  10. I can't take this. First Six Feet Under, now this trailer. God damn it with the tears already.

  11. See also "Sommersturm" an amazing german comming-out movie, with a nice end ;)

  12. Okay, Miguel, thanks!

  13. I highly recommend "Just a Question of Love." It's a wonderful French film (English subtitles) about a realistic, non-stereotypical, and uplifting gay couple. Plus, the guys are so hot; their chemistry burns up the screen.

  14. Michael,

'Big Eden' is an amazing movie. A gay man returns to his small hometown to find a surprising level of acceptance from the town's people.

  15. For a happy ending to a fantastic gay themed movie see "Maurice". It's just wonderful and the scene at the end in the boathouse is a classic.

  16. How about BEAUTIFUL THING for gay and heart-warming?

The story of two British teens in a working class neighborhood finding each other. 1996

  17. Talk about tear-jerkers, "Parting Glances" is definitely a three-hanky gay movie.

    Posted by: cafegogo | Aug 24, 2005 1:57:03 PM

  18. Thanks, Tony, I'll check it out! Filmbuff1000, I've seen ads for "Just a Question of Love" and have been wondering about that one, too. I'll check it out. Anna, I have Maurice on tape and you're right, that one is really good (I had forgotten about that one)! Beautiful Thing is good too--I had also forgotten about that one. I guess there are more good ones than I thought. I think I'll give Parting Glances a skip, though, Cafegogo, if it's a tear-jerker. I just want a movie that makes me feel good about myself. I've had enough with the bashing and the depressing, gloomy outlooks! Thanks for the recommendations, guys!

  19. JesseJames is bang-on: BEAUTIFUL THING.

Aside from an incredible ending, it's probably the best, smartest, heartfelt, most sincere "gay" movies ever.

Except of course for Valley of the Dolls (just kidding...)

  20. Mommy Dearest has a happy ending. I can't believe no one's mentioned that.

    Posted by: T.R. | Aug 24, 2005 2:35:29 PM

  21. My ass, Latter Days made me believe in love for 4 days straight! I was singing "All is full of love" (By Bjork) for an hour.

  22. If you want to read Brokeback Mountain, Amazaon remarkably has the entire short story posted online as an excerpt from Annie Proulx's book "Close Range: Wyoming Stories". It makes me cry each time I read it.

  23. Thanks, Drew, but I don't see where to access the excerpt once I get to that page...

    Posted by: Michael | Aug 24, 2005 4:39:17 PM

  24. There is no link to the excerpt on the page -- the entire short story is copied onto the page. The story starts on the page below where is says:

Excerpt from Close Range: Wyoming Stories (Chivers Sound Library American Collections (Audio)) [UNABRIDGED]

    Brokeback Mountain

Ennis Del Mar wakes before five, wind rocking the trailer, hissing in around the aluminum door and window frames. The shirts hanging on a nail shudder slightly in the draft. He gets up . . . .

  25. The movie looks interesting, but I didn't like the trailer at all. Just kind of sloppy in my opinion. Oh well, I still wanna see it...
