  5. It seems that a lot of people, including Valerie's friends and neighbors, knew she worked for the CIA. How many people knew she was doing "undercover" work for the agency?

    It is not illegal for anyone to discuss the identity of a CIA employee, unless they know that the employee is working "undercover".

    It is also not illegal for someone who knows that a CIA employee is working undercover, to talk to another person about that employee, if the person they are speaking to has a security clearance that allows them to hear that information.

    To violate the law in question, a person has to intentionally expose the identity of a person that they know is an undercover CIA operative.

    It seems like it might be a difficult case to prove, since it requires proving both intent, and prior knowledge.
