Even Closeted Gays Feel the Brunt of Discrimination
Doug Ireland has an informative piece in this week's LA Weekly on California Rep. David Dreier and the mainstream media's ignorance of the real reason he wasn't given the opportunity to replace Tom Delay:
"Within minutes after Hastert’s selection of Dreier, Blogactive.com — the D.C.-based Web site that first outed Dreier — posted online and widely e-mailed an alert. “Call Dennis Hastert and thank him for standing up to the Radical Right by recommending a gay man as Majority Leader,” Blogactive’s Mike Rogers wryly wrote, giving Hastert’s phone number. Within hours, according to a low-ranking Hastert staffer who requested anonymity, the speaker’s office received more than 400 phone calls about Dreier’s being gay.
Many of those calls were from right-wingers."

Even gay pugs get the blues.

Who was discriminating here? Sounds like the lefties were the ones going after Dreier. What a shame.

Dreier's been selling out his gay brothers and sisters with each and every vote where he sided with the Christian Right. If anything, this should illustrate to every Gay Republican just how much tolerance they can expect from the Right. But yeah, Mitch, it's always somehow the fault of the left. .

This article leaves me wondering who hates homosexuals the most. The "Christian" right or the gay conservatives.

See, once again, Mitch, you've done an amazingly good job of coopting the 'victim' PC mentality of the old left. You right wingers are amazingly adaptive...sort of like a virus. Often enough, I will read something on 'Malcontent' or even the occasional B O'R editorial and see some truth in what they have to say. Even Michael Ramirez, the pol cartoonist in the La Times, who is the worst of the PC lot, sometimes will hit the nail on the head. But like Ann Coulter and the rest of your tired ilk, you have become so dogmatic in your never ending quest to worship the Rovian cult you find it incomprehensible to see two sides of any argument. That would require real thought.
SO: let me try to explain this. Simply BECAUSE Dreier is gay doesn't make him a political ally. We don't need a gay litmus test. Simply because we stated the facts, and let the Christian right take their position, doesn't make us traitors...simply reporters. You guys did an effective job of taking control of the New York Times, the Washington Post and much of the television media by blaming the messenger. Don't expect us all to fall into that trap.
