Two Long Island Men Arrested for Rest Stop Gay Bashing

Cruise_1Victor Lopez, 18, and David Andrade, 19, have been arrested by police after targeting gay men at a Long Island rest stop by promising them sex, then luring them into secluded areas where they were duct-taped, accosted, threatened with a firearm, and robbed. One attacker would take the victim's ATM card and pin number to a local ATM and withdraw money while the other attacker waited with the victim.

Police said that Lopez and Andrade told the victims "they were robbed because they hate homosexuals."

The arrests came following an attack last Monday night, after which the victim went to police with descriptions of the individuals.

Coincidentally, less than a month ago, the New York Times published the controversial story "A Sex Stop on the Way Home" which detailed the habits of married men on Long Island who frequent highway rest stops for sex.

  2. Is it just me, or has there been a sharp increase in gay bashings recently? Or is it just that more are being reported? Very scary.

  3. I think the idoit writer and his editor from the NY Times should be held somewhat responsible. While I doubt these kids read the times, I'll bet they were informed indirectly about a perfect little spot to commit a crime on people not expected to run to the cops. I hope they throw the book at these baby bigot theives! Better still I hope they themselves are preyed upon in jail.

  4. So I can't read the NY Post because they hate the gays, and I can't read the NY Daily News because they're ambivalent about the gays, and I can't read the NY Times because they're irresponsible with the gays. Don't fail me now, Metro.

  5. Do you really think two teenaged, illegal immigrants got hip to the man-on-man action at Exit 49 because they read about it in the New York Times? Get real. So may SUV's and mini-vans tour that track at night that it looks like the carnival's come to town.

    Easy to miss it's not.
