A Look Back at 2005: The Urban Canvas
Public art was impossible to escape in New York this year. In February, Gates-mania reached a fever pitch, while Robert Smithson's posthumous "Floating Island" slowly circled the isle of Manhattan for a weekend in September. This of course inspired many parodies. In the brutal humidity of August I spotted the painter above trying to capture the electronic canvas of Times Square on his old-school cloth canvas. Good luck.
I just received word that somehow Towleroad won the award for Best Gay Urban Blog over at travel site Gridskipper's Urbs Awards. I'm not exactly sure how that happened but I definitely feel flattered having been in the company of the other blogs that were nominated: Chafostheory, Queerty, JoeMyGod, Vividblurry, and Shades of Gray. They're all among my daily reads. Thanks, everyone.

Congrats Andy for the well-deserved win; after all it's far from easy putting in the effort, day after day after day :)
On the 2nd picture: the saffron colour really reminds me of the robes of tibetan buddhist monks...
