Eye on Human Rights over the Weekend

Manila

Gay and lesbian groups were among those marching to mark the 57th anniversary of the International Declaration of Human Rights on Saturday in Manila. "The marchers called for an end to discriminations against them and to penalize those who abuse, discriminate and exploit homosexuals," according to the Associated Press.

The same day, several Towleroad readers were in Cleveland for the final concert of U2's Vertigo tour, where Bono asked audience members to SMS their names to a number in support of the International Declaration of Human Rights. Moments later concertgoers names began appearing in a three-dimensional montage on the enormous screens over the stage. The concert also reasserted the fact that cameraphones are the new butane lighter! All hail technology! Towleroad correspondent Jonathan S. sent in these cameraphone shots from the concert. click to enlarge. Thanks Jonathan!

Jonathan also mentioned that sexual orientation was notably absent from the International Declaration, so he took matters into his own hands and left a note at Bono's hotel that read:

Great concert
Great declaration
What about sexual orientation?

He has not yet received a response...

And finally, in Taiwan, approximately 100 people attended an engagement ceremony for a gay couple to mark International Human Rights Day. Same-sex marriage, however, is far from legal in that country. The engagement party was planned to draw attention to legalizing same-sex marriage.

  2. "...left a note at Bono's hotel... What about sexual orientation?"

Bono probably took it personally... perhaps Bono thought the note was from someone trying to extort $ from him? Bono might've thought the person was an eyewitness to what happened at the White House recently and saw him french kissing Dubya's rectum?

    Politicians make for strange bedfellows?
