Activists Protest Outside Vatican

Italian_activists

One day after Pope Benedict reiterated his feelings against same-sex marriage, a group of approximately 40 activists demanding that the church stay out of Italian affairs protested outside St. Peter's Square. The protest was timed to mark the anniversary of the death of Alfredo Ormando, a gay man who set himself on fire there in 1998 to protest the Catholic church's position regarding homosexuality.

  1. It is time for Americans, both religious and non, to openly discuss the evidence showing that God is imaginary.

There are two important reasons why humans fabricate all of our religions:

    1. People invent God as a way to cope with death. Many humans are terrified by death for some reason. They invent religion as a way to deal with their terror.

    2. People invent God as a proxy for goodness. People want a way to promote "goodness" and eliminate "evil" in their societies. In the past, inventing an imaginary God has been perceived to be one way to facilitate that process.

Death and goodness are important to people. They touch on fundamental human emotions. If we can separate death and goodness from the mythology of God so that we can understand them and work with them in a positive way, we can actually do something very helpful. We can create a rational world for ourselves that is focused on benefiting mankind.

  2. Does anyone remember jp2's face, contorted with hatred, as he rained down rage upon the thousands of people gathered in Rome for WorldPride 2000?
Well, Ratzfucker, stylishly attired in his gold-encrusted robes and fabulous red Prada shoes is a clone.
    What do you expect?

  5. "People invent God as a..."

Of course they do but please keep it a secret so i can continue being who i am?

My handlers were going to pour boiling tar over those 40 activists and then feather them, using some of my many thousand dyed pink ostrich feathers that i keep to tickle young altar boys into submission, but fortunately i talked them out of it for now... but eventually they will do as they please.

i feel like a prisoner most of the time... i was going to marry my predecessor, JP2, but when his handlers found out about it they put JP2 to sleep... so now i obey them!

  6. I was going to make the old lament, that if the Pope is so against same-sex marriage, he shouldn't marry a man. (When a women enters a convent, does she marry God? Can the same be said for priests? Is God a masculine being? Just a tangent....) But Vincent's comments are exactly right. Why can't our family go on the defense against this man who feels he has a right to impose his world view on others? Let's promote real spirituality and secular humanism, while we denounce the crutch of believing in a human-like god, who punishes those we dislike. (Not to mention all the editing done to the Bible, and the political alligning of the "church" with European kings to consolidate control over the masses.)

  7. You can't begin to properly catalogue the corruptions of the Catholic church over the millennia. The outright criminal popes who've been literally chased out of Rome; the many thousands of murders in the name of ending heresy; the subjugations of whole nations; down to the unearthed truth, buried in the ruins of the Constantinople libraries, that there was never supposed to BE a see at the Vatican - or anywhere else - with authority over the others. All of which breaks the heart of a lot of Catholics. Like me. It's hard, holding to the tenets of a faith when the ancient structure of that faith has always been so monstrous.

Now, in 2006, a new pontiff writes the bulls and comes down on gay this and gay that. This ain't shit, guys. Huge beasts take a long time to die. This one has been taking forever. But it's breathing is very shallow, and it's got that strange look to its grey flesh.
