Bush Hasn't Seen Brokeback, But He Likes Ranchin'

Bush_brokebackPresident Bush was asked about Brokeback Mountain after giving a speech today at Kansas State University.

Question: You're a rancher. A lot of us here in Kansas are ranchers. I just wanted to get your opinion on Brokeback Mountain and if you had seen it yet... You would love it. You should check it out.

Bush: I hadn't seen it. I would be glad to talk about ranchin' but I haven't seen the movie... I've heard about it... I hope you go.. you know.. heh, heh.. I hope you go back to the ranch and the farm is what I was going to say... I hadn't seen it.

I wasn't clear if Bush meant to say something else when he paused after saying "I hope you go..." or if it was just one of his usual incomprehensible mindfarts.

Bradblog has the clip.

That accent is so fake.

Posted by: Donald | Jan 23, 2006 5:41:18 PM

"incomprehensible mindfarts"—that says it all. Except for the fact that I've never understood how educated right wingers could stomach the guy enough to support him for the nomination for President in the first place. I guess blind ideology leads to deafness, too. The accent is fake but the stupidity is real.

It's like having Gilligan in the White House...except this is an evil Gilligan.

Posted by: Michael | Jan 23, 2006 6:02:25 PM

He actually sounded embarrassed about answering the question, and maybe it was because he had seen it, and didn't want to admit it. The question definitely caught him off guard. You just can't script questions from a college audience.

It was amusing to watch him squirm, just like most straight guys would have, if you asked them if they'd seen a Gay movie. He's such a breeder, bless his heart.

Bush is as much a rancher as I am. (I live in Brooklyn.) He bought the Crawford State Set six months before he launched his campaign.

As for the response: typical cluelessness while trying to pretend he knew what he was talking about.

Posted by: Glen | Jan 23, 2006 6:39:11 PM

"mindfarts" ... I love it. Never heard that expression.

Posted by: Tim | Jan 23, 2006 7:06:10 PM

Was the questioner being sarcastic when he said "you'd love it"? I can't imagine a BROKEBACK fan actually got into one of those events.

Posted by: Andy | Jan 23, 2006 7:12:07 PM

Bush what a joke, he was a total jerk trying to answer the question. I don't understand how anyone can not see the evil in his eyes...

Posted by: Gary | Jan 23, 2006 7:24:16 PM

The most frightening part of watching that clip is the applause that he gets while giving that absolutely brain-dead answer. It makes no sense whatsoever, yet these blind followers of him react as if he had made a brilliant response. Its exactly like the movie Being There. Only "the Gardener" has a heart.

America should be so proud. Was he talking about Paris at the beginning of the clip?

Posted by: PSMike | Jan 23, 2006 8:02:45 PM

Listen to the audience laugh AT Bush who is humiliating himself with his answer in the link below. Note how he laughs (thinking they’re laughing WITH him which they are clearly not) or shrugs off the question with slight good-old boy indignation as he does most of the time when he's back into a corner..., which is far less often than he thinks.

http://www.campchaos.com/show.php?iID=868

As far as him being a rancher let’s kill two birds with one stone, that being his phony rancher cred and his omnipresent and shameful ignorance. In the first few months of his presidency (remember when he was always on vacation?) he was on his ranch out in the woods wearing a cowboy hat with tons of reporters around trying to build up his macho image by using a chainsaw to cut down a 4” thick growth he liked to refer to as a “tree”. One reporter, alluding to an historical reference, asked Bush, “Aren’t you going to use an axe to cut down that tree?” to which Bush replied, “Nah, that was Abraham Lincoln.”

No, Abraham Lincoln is the one who freed the slaves, George Washington is the one who cut down the cherry tree with an axe you stupid fucking monkey.

Bush is a philistine who thinks a self-deprecating charm will excuse his deep contempt for intellectual curiosity. Fool.

P.S. I just got through re-watching the 2nd presidential debate in 2000 where he referred to gay marriage and hate crime bills as "special rights”. No offense, but any gay person who voted for him thinking he viewed you as a fellow American deserving of equality and respect is as big a fool as he is.

Okay, I probably shouldn't have called the president a stupid fucking monkey.

Posted by: Chad Hanging | Jan 23, 2006 8:30:11 PM

No, you shouldn't! You're giving monkeys a bad name.

PS: ABC ran "Enemy of the State" over the weekend. As bad as they are, it was chilling how much that 8-year old film about the government using technology to spy on and attack its dissenters is like reading this morning's paper.

Posted by: Leland | Jan 23, 2006 9:05:47 PM

Getting past the president's many mental lapses, I think this time he was just attracted to the guy who asked him the question and didn't know what to do until his little nuts returned to between his thighs. Probably had to stay behind that podium for a while.

Posted by: Kim | Jan 23, 2006 9:12:49 PM

Not in any way to defend that corrupt halfwit in the White House, but Lincoln was well known for his ability with an ax, while that Washington cherry tree business is of course apocryphal.

From the National Park Service's Lincoln Memorial website:

"Stories abound of his [Lincoln's] legendary skills with an ax. He worked for a while splitting logs into fence rails. In a typical day he split 400 rails for a wage of 25 cents."

Um...we're talking about George W Bush. Do you really think he knows anything more about historical figures or events beyond the most common anecdotes?

This is George W. Bush we're talking about.

Posted by: Chad Hanging | Jan 23, 2006 9:19:24 PM

the phrase of the day is "stupid fucking monkey"

I love love love it.

I laughed so hard, I saw stars.

Thanks, Chad.

PS Remember that, at least before he stole the White House, the ONLY time Little Lord Fauntleroy had ever been to the theater was to see "Cats."

MINDFARTS???

Oh my gawd, Andy!

I can't handle this.

You're just KILLing me!

There are so many creepy things about Bush - his complete lack of sincerity, honesty and emotion being at the top of the list...

His answer to the Brokeback question was supposed to show his 'wink wink' condesending attitude about the movie and about gay men - it's his kind of 'shucks, I don't know nothing about 2 men fucking in a pup tent, he he he, that's just plumb crazy' schitck. He's a troll and if his last name wasn't Bush he'd be selling used cars in Crawford, TX.

Posted by: Ricky | Jan 23, 2006 11:35:16 PM

Chad, Bush is a "stupid fucking monkey." You have nothing to apologize for. The people who voted for that ignoramus on the other-hand...

Posted by: Robert In WeHo | Jan 23, 2006 11:42:31 PM

What a coincidence. I was watching the clip of his stuttering on our 10 pm news just as I clicked on this story. Glen is right. His ranch is movie set he purchased to try to fit the image he wants to portray. Like the great house in "Giant", it's just a fake front. Before he took over the Governor's Mansion in Austin and then stole the White House in Washington he lived in Dallas, about a mile from me. Yes I am a Texan, and like the Dixie Chicks, I'm ashamed to admit it right now.

Posted by: GaYToR | Jan 23, 2006 11:46:19 PM

The guy that asked that question was my brother, Jeremy Parker. He is a recent graduate of Kansas State. He's a heterosexual, but did see and like the movie. Mainly though he just wanted to make the President uncomfortable. Our family has never been more proud!!!

Um...we're talking about George W Bush. Do you really think he knows anything more about historical figures or events beyond the most common anecdotes?

Um, yes.

You dolts have never heard the phrase "mind farts?" It's a phrase that bugs me, but I suppose if you all want to get giddy about it, that's ok.

Chad, Bush is a "stupid fucking monkey." You have nothing to apologize for. The people who voted for that ignoramus on the other-hand...

And you sound like a brilliant fellow. I mean, the way you have chosen such words to express your thoughts. Brilliant, I say! WeHo tripe.

Such an idiot...

Why such hostility Patrick?

If you are attempting to sound eloquent and more sophisticated than the previous posters, then you should avoid name calling.

I would tell my 7 year old nephew, “sticks and stones…” if he acted similarly.

Posted by: RP | Jan 24, 2006 2:25:48 AM

No one's filling in the blank?

"I hope you go...you know...and see, as I did, the horrible and life-ending result of the repression this land exercised for so many vile years, as presented by the merciless and beautiful hand of Ang Lee...next question?"

'Evil' is right, gentlemen. A chilling reminder - still in power - that outright stupidity cuddles with evil in the dark of night.

Posted by: Jacko | Jan 24, 2006 3:26:47 AM

JACKO, I enjoy your posts and usually you are right on target with me, but you made the life-ending repression sound past tense. Trust me it is not. Lessened, yes, but over, not. It still happens every day both in our rural and our urban areas. It was what made me cry the loudest watching the movie.

Bush could use a good cry too. I don't think he would ever get the point of Brokeback Mountain but maybe if he went to Ira.... oh nevermind. You all know where I am headed and this isn't the forum for that road.

Posted by: GaYToR | Jan 24, 2006 5:11:41 AM

"Why such hostility Patrick?"

Because this is the same mindless drivel that I have to deal with whenever I venture anywhere near West Hollywood. Bush is an idiot. Bush is a liar. Bush is a monkey. What a retard. And on and on ad naseum. It’s childish, uninformed and borderline neurotically obsessive.

"If you are attempting to sound eloquent and more sophisticated than the previous posters"

If I were attempting to sound eloquent and sophisticated I probably would not be commenting on a blog.

"I would tell my 7 year old nephew, “sticks and stones…” if he acted similarly."

I would tell one of my nephews to go for the jugular.

I always thought the term was "brainfart", but I can see why you didn't use it.

It is a classic political tactic - don’t reveal how smart you are and your opponents will always underestimate you. He rules the world we post stupid things on the internet about him. I guess he is doing something right.

Posted by: Matthew Schooler | Jan 24, 2006 4:55:53 PM

Well, I guess ditching the old sterotypes in favor of creating your own sterotype could be seen as a sign of progress.

I...guess.
