Turn to the Right
The Senate today voted to confirm Samuel Alito to the U.S. Supreme Court by a vote of 58-42.
Prepare to watch the social progress of the last 20 years unravel.

Be prepared for dark days ahead! Then maybe instead of bitchin and moaning about Heath at the SAG awards, we will move on to what IS important!

20 years of social progress? Excitable today Andy? DOMA and DADT happened in the last 20 years. We have made very little, real legal progress in the last 20 years, mostly because of the ham fisted strategy of the HRC crowd.
To make real progress we have to deal with the party in power, which is going to be in power for the foreseeable future, and we refuse to do that. Instead we are openly hostile to even the moderate voices in the party and have ilk like Mike Rogers threatening to out a Senator because he voted for cloture yesterday.

Very good point Mitch. You can be angry all you want, unless you offer an alternative...nobody really cares!

Speaking of unraveling twenty years of progress. I found this film from 1961 (thanks to a poster's earlier mention of archive.org today) that spoke of the evil "dangers of the homosexual". It's similar to the STD warning films and the ones about "loose women" of the period. Thought you'd find it interesting.

hear hear. there's a reason Alito was confirmed overwhelmingly, because there was no reason not to confirm him. he is more than qualified for the position, and shows no signs of being some sort of stealth Bush lackey. divining the future opinions of a newly appointed SC Justice is a total fool's game, as any cursory glance through the history of the Court will show. what exactly is about to unravel, that's what I would like to know? as Mitch pointed out, the two most damaging pieces of anti-gay legislation in the past 2 decades were enacted under the Dems watch. way to go, gay-friendly party!

Could someone wake me if and when the sky really does fall?
Thanks.

You know, if you don't like the way things are going, you could always elect some Democrats to office. That might require doing something other than griping and moaning about the Republicans, but it can be done...... if you really want to.

Jay,
Again you need something to offer the American people beside "Vote for me because I hate the other guy"
Posted by: Matthew Schooler | Jan 31, 2006 5:16:17 PM
"Vote for us; we hate better" stunk in 2004 and will still stink in 2006.

That's strange, I didn't realize that voting and bitching were mutually exclusive.
Thank god I'll never have to worry about getting a woman pregnant.

And Andy's worried about Alito? Maybe he should worry about the "new face of the Democratic party", Tim Keane.

thanks for that, Mitch. after watching him give the response last night, I had an uneasy feeling about him. too slick, too polished, very VA good old boy feeling. so where are the posts about how the Dems are turning back the clock on 20 years of social progress by making this asshole the face of their party, Andy? how long are we going to remain numb to the reality that we do not have any representation at the top levels of government, on either side of the aisle? how long are we going to switch off our brains and allow the DNC to funnel talking points through the HRC? how long are we going to buy the demonization of one party at the benefit of the other party, even though they both side against us time after time after time? have all the steroids destroyed our capacity to think for ourselves completely?

actually, i just noticed the Tim Kaine one-liner above this post, so Andy's off the hook a little bit...the rest of my comment still holds.

Alito's first ruling? He split with the conservatives.
