Best gay blog. Towleroad Wins Award

Madonna_sorry_1road.jpg Here you go. The song everybody wanted Madonna to perform last night at the Grammy's.

road.jpg Howard Stern talks to John Paulus, the former green beret-turned-hustler who claims he slept with Clay Aiken.

road.jpg That's hot. Another edition of Hot Olympians is back. First up is Chad Hedrick. Apparently he's the "Paris Hilton of speed skating." I'm not sure if that means he has a sex tape hidden somewhere or he skates with a chihuahua, but I'll stay tuned.

road.jpg Continuing Olympic coverage, the PEN15 club gives the Simon Cowell treatment to figure skater Johnny Weir, whom they say has "the fashion sense of a gay dolphin caught in a fishing net while reenacting a scene from Showgirls." More on Johnny Weir at Deadspin...

road.jpg Philip Seymour Hoffman gives Graydon Carter's Truman Capote impersonation an "F": "While he stood there, I did my own impersonation, including the high-pitched, fey, lisping voice and the waving of a crooked finger while I adjusted my eyeglasses. He gave me a pissed-off look and just walked away."

  1. "Gay Speech Impediment Boot Camp"—that's a hoot. Hoffman obviously graduated Summa Cum Lout [sic]. And for this we should give him an Oscar? Any more than we should admire the subject of his impersonation, who wrote one good book but Joe and Wanda America only remember as that creepy joke paraded on talk shows? And, had he lived, done nothing more to advance gay rights than the almost still alive Vidal—pontificate from the sidelines. Just because you're a Homo doesn't make you a Hero.

  2. Wow,

Howard Stern's continuing with his jump on the BBM bandwagon. I mean, his male audience isn't going to up and run out to the movie just because he advised them to. So, now, they're suddenly going to take an interest in Clay's lovemate?

    Yeah, RIGHT.

Uh, gee, well, maybe I'll listen...

Oh no, does this mean I'm becoming a Howie fan??? No! No! Noooooo!...

  3. Andy, you don't miss a beat. We even have a Johnny Weir fashion critique and the scary thing is it's right on the mark. I almost peed my pants. Hysterical.

  4. T C wrote more than one good book. Everything he wrote was great. He had a true gift. Leave Gore Vidal alone he is an icon.

Clay is an aggresive top? God almighty I'm butcher than he is and I'm....Oh well never mind.

Madonna was a disappointment, Kelly Clarkson and Xtina were beyond fab, Mariah was decent, Mary Jane and U2 were great. The rest were weak at best and the Family Stone what was up with that?

  5. Damn, you should've posted a pic of Madonna with that really hot Latino dancer she was dancing with last night. I think he was wearing a red shirt. Do you have one?

  6. And speaking of Latino Madonna mixes... it's safe for work guys.. :) Though you may not forgive me for this.

  7. The best performance at the Grammy last night was by Madonna. The stage was amazing, and the dancing was incredible.
And the song transition from "Feel Good Inc." to "Hung Up" was unbelievably perfect.

  8. Thanks, Andy - my partner's been chewing his nails for that video to emerge.

My take: OK, Madonna in a vehicle, objectifying a motley selection of men with her gal pals; Madonna stretching a lot; Madonna and crew clambering up the sides of cages. Etc. I've seen it all before.

  9. I think it is so terrific that Johnny Weir is so out there and unapologetically gay and queeny. It's about time that someone followed in Rudy Galindo's footsteps and came out. What are the others hiding from? It's figure skating for God's sake.

  10. Oh Chad, who knew that the ice could be so hot?

  11. did madonna even bother a rehearsal of that same ol' routine ?
    she needs to garbo.

  13. I love that Johnny Weir is queeny. Kids who are seen as "sissies" are often teased mercilessly at school... it's great to see the sissy become a famous athlete while still being 100% himself in the process. And even though figure skating is a more artistic sport, those boys are definitely athletes. You could crack walnuts with Johnny's ass.

  14. Brad Patton (right) also used to be an ice-skater professionally.

  15. Gorillaz are so F*ing now...Madonna is so last century! God Bless her at least she is trying. I do appreciate her stamina. The best thing about the Grammy’s...American Idol (and I don't even watch AI). I had a dinner (I know hard to believe) so I missed them both but I did tivo the show just to see the Gorillaz/Madonna act.

  16. As a big skating fan, (bring on the Olys!) Weir definitely skates to the beat of a different drummer. But else from a guy who calls one of his costumes "icicle on coke"? (Acually, he multi-flavoured drug references having been pissing off the USFSA lately).

  18. Personally, I liked Mariah's performance best. A shame she did not even win for her song. I think Grammys should start calling themselves Grannies.

Don't get me wrong, but it seems that Rock and Roll is still what they prefer, and the "black" or "urban" genres were completely shut out again.

    Posted by: Jason | Feb 9, 2006 11:27:44 PM

  19. I actually think the entire Grammys was turned into a Black/Urban celebration almost. Kanye and Mariah both won. Also, there are like 400 R/B and Rap categories including "contemporary" and "regular" R/B performances and albums. It's almost as if to make more black winners to defened themselves.

As for the performances, I think Kelly Clarkson sounded the best. She sounded great on a difficult song. Paul McCartney was good as well. Keith Urban and Sugarland sounded really good, too. Madonna was good in the fact that she was entertaining, although she rehashed the same exact performance from the MTV Euro awards sans disco ball (best part). Mariah sounded fine, but her hand motions make Celine Dion pleasurable to watch. Did anyone else notice the sound was off for almost ALL performances?

Worst performances: Kanye West (too ghetto), John Legend (nice voice, I guess, but I will never understand the appeal of the song), Sly Stone Tribute (totally unnnecesary)

BTW- was anyone else annoyed by the John Legend/Kanye/Will.I.am group with their grandmothers/aunts hollering and jumping all over the place in their big hats and feathers? What happened to class at award shows?

Homo-friendly or not, Kanye West is the most overrated performer out there. He's so arrogant that any ounce of talent he (doesn't) have is shadowed by his awful attitude. I've never been a fan. Gold Digger is catchy, but grammy worthy?

  21. Andy:
You're like a gay Smokey the Bear so I trust you sniff out the truth to the rumor that Olympic speedskater Chad Hedrick and short program coach Derrick Campbell are gay lovers. Please shed light on this intriguing question.
