Video shows Bush was well-briefed before Hurricane Katrina about possible threats to levees and danger to human life: "Bush didn't ask a single question during the final briefing before Katrina struck on Aug. 29, but he assured soon-to-be-battered state officials: 'We are fully prepared.'" So what did Bush mean when he told Diane Sawyer on September 1st, "I don't think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees."

The Gilded Moose explores the Green Room at the Oscars and discovers that it features (gasp!) a convex mirror. They note: "Look for this to be torn down by Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie before the audience has suffered through the first song."
Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito sent a thank you note recently to Focus on the Family's James Dobson. "This is just a short note to express my heartfelt thanks to you and the entire staff of Focus on the Family for your help and support during the past few challenging months," the note begins. Is it common practice for a seated justice to send a thank you note to an interest group of any kind? Just wondering, because the practice seems "highly unethical" to me as well, particularly as the Court currently sits on an important partial-birth abortion case.

Oh crap and corruption! I can only hope that he's sending these cards to everyone who sent him letters.
I'm sure the one to NARAL/Pro-Choice went something like:
"Thank you for telling me where to go. I regret that I was not able to find the shortest route to hell on either Mapquest or Google. My heart is warmed by the fact that so many of the members of your organization are thinking about me and think that I am limber enough to do as you suggest. I am, however, Catholic, and I can only do that with my wife.
Best regards,
Sammmy.

"Catholic Bishops To Support Arizona Gay Marriage Ban. (Phoenix, Arizona) Arizona's three Roman Catholic bishops say they support amending the state constitution to ban same-sex marriage and will permit a proposed ballot initiative to be circulated in churches." -365gay.com
Welcome to the United States of God. "Sodomites will be countenanced only on a Provisional Work Visa basis, and only for such time as is needed to complete same. This applies to church choir directors, pianists, organists, hairdressers, florists, et al."

Heh,heh, he said "pianist", get it? "pianist" heh, heh.
If any one doesn't appreciate Beevus and Butthead, you won't get it.

Actually, I think Thank You notes to acknowledge favors received are still common courtesy.

Exactly my point. I'm sure Justice Alito didn't register anywhere so he has to send a ton of notes to people who all gave him crock pots and toasters. Seriously, if Dobson's contention is true, then I think there's a problem, because I doubt the Associate Justice is sending cards to groups who have expressed concerns to him or sent letters praying that he won't turn out to be the reincarnation of Satan that the presidential pretender hopes he will be. I have been trying to keep an open mind about Justice Alito, but this is the kind of stuff that tells me that GW has appointed a monster.

I think the current administration is working on the belief that you're not lying to the american people unless the untrue statement comes out of testimony given while under oath.

Jimmy,
Unless Bush physically holds a gun and kills someone--or the Democrats soon instill more confidence--his coffin will remain open.

"Unless Bush physically holds a gun and kills someone his coffin will remain open."
But there still has to be videotaped evidence and even if there was we'd still spend 6 months watching them smear and destroy those who shot the video and/or leaked it to the press, not to mention blaming the press for showing it.

Bush. Bush. It is so damn embarrassing to be an American with an imbecilic, smirking, elderly frat boy in office.

The scary thing about Bush is that a wiley terrorist should be able to figure out the codes to the nukes. There are only so many possible combinations available when the president only has ten fingers.

This country is finished. I'm moving to Europe.

On September 1, three days after Hurricane Katrina made landfall, President Bush told Diane Sawyer on Good Morning America that "I don’t think anybody anticipated the breach of the levees." Now we see video proof that Bush was warned ahead of time in the strongest possible terms, by federal disaster officials and his own homeland security chief.
I wish this were an isolated incident, but it’s not. Remember also:
* After 9/11 Condoleeze Rice defended Bush by saying that no one anticipated terrorists would fly planes into buildings. Then we learned that Bush had received a CIA warning titled "Bin Laden Determined to Strike Inside US" which included that possibility.
* Before starting his war with Iraq, Bush told us there was proof Saddam Hussein had Weapons of Mass Destruction. We learned later that the president had seen contradicting evidence.
* In April, 2004 at an event promoting the Patriot Act, Bush said "a wiretap requires a court order. When we’re talking about chasing down terrorists, we're talking about getting a court order before we do so...because we value the Constitution." Then we learned that he had signed a secret warrantless spying order two years earlier.
These aren't just lies about sex, these are serious.
How can a president who lies about important matters expect to get our trust when he says "Just Trust Me" on port security, the war on terror, or anything else?

Bill: I really don't understand how long American's will continue to believe that we are safe having this person as President. He has proven that the strongest country in the world can't do as effective a job of helping its citizens in time of disaster as a third world country. He's proven that secret police tactics didn't go away with the fall of the Berlin Wall. He's even proven that torture will be tolerated if we do it, but if anyone else does it, it's grounds for invasion.
The sad thing is that so many people do believe him because of that whole Christian thing...he wouldn't lie, he was born again.

Bush once said he knew a man was telling the truth by looking in his eyes. When you lower the bar of scrutiny for your own self-serving purposes you run the risk of others doing the same.
That's what's happening to him now. As tightly as he's tried to keep his eyes squinted, people are starting to see him now.
I've always known.
