I AM SO SICK AND FRIGGIN' TIRED OF THIS CONSTANT BUSH BASHING SUCH AS THIS VIDEO. Do I think EVERYTHING is on the UP and UP? No!!! But, do you KNOW FOR A FACT that Bush did something wrong and that we don't know the entire story of things? NO! You don't know because YOU WERE NOT THERE and you WERE NOT priviledged to the information at that time!
It is VERY easy to sit behind your computers, your desk, or in your easy chair and say "hes the WORST pres. we EVER had!" Shut up!!! I am so sick of it! Do i support EVERYTHING he does? NO. but I believe that he DOES have our country's best interest at heart!!!
Ugh! This video CRAWLED ALL OVER me this morning!!
If you don't agree with things, that is fine, but we DO NEED to support this President!
And this was not direct at the author of Towleroad but all those who are waving the flags and yelling and screaming!!
One more thing. I have SEVERAL family members in the military. When you join the military, you know you are putting your life at risk, and you family should support YOU in that decision, and you DO submit yourself to the government. THAT'S HOW IT IS AND THE PEOPLE THAT GO INTO THE MILITARY KNOW THAT! So SHUT UP! They chose it!
Thanks!

Dissent is patriotic.

How has Bush not been impeached yet? He outright lies and continually gets caught. His administration smacks of the secrecy and paranoia of the Nixon administration. We couldn't live with it back then. How can we live with it now?

I DON'T believe for a SECOND that Bush has this country's interests at heart. He is NOTHING but a PRIVILEGED OIL BRAT! He is ASTOUNDINGLY dense, and I am FED UP with people who are UNABLE to see the BLATANT AURA of idiocy, greed, and something very like EVIL dude wears!
(So there.)

ATLSINGLEMAN, You didn't get the point of the video. It wasn't just about George W. Bush. The video shows the culmination of greed, capitalism, corporatism, and the "American dream".
1: This country has lost all sense of its original purpose. Democracy doesn't exist because our current eletoral system is completely outdated and unnecessary in the digital age.
2: I have family members in the military, too. They know what they get themselves into and it becomes a problem when they are fed rhetoric and BS about how joining the armed forces is a great way to pay for college, gain respect, protect the country, etc. Both of my cousins, one of whom is in Iraq and the other in Afghanistan, have been deployed for over two years now. People make their own choices AND THOSE CHOICES ARE INFLUENCED BY THE MEDIA (all mainstream media are owned by corporations).
3: While people shop at Wal-Mart for its "always low prices", they also support a corporation that promises "always low wages" and paying an unliveable wage for people around the world for their goods. And while I understand that some people have no choice but to shop at places like Wal-Mart, severe income inequality is caused by groups like Wal-Mart.
4: We don't NEED to support the president. Did you forget about the American Revolution? People who are not happy with the current leadership have the opportunity to express dissent. SO YES, DISSENT IS PATRIOTIC.
5: Flag-waving gun-toting idiots are not patriotic, they are NATIONALISTIC and there is a big difference between the two.
I AM NOT SICK AND TIRED OF BUSH-BASHING OR ANTI-AMERICANISM. I am disgusted and ashamed to call myself an American while there are people around the world who are suffering because they can't gain access to the most basic needs yet a can of Coke is just around the corner.
I am leaving for Kingston, Jamaica in a few days for spring break to do service work. WE NEED TO STOP DEFINING OURSELVES BY ARBITRARILY CONSTRUCTED CATEGORIES AND SEE THAT ALL HUMANS ARE ESSENTIALLY THE SAME AND NEED THE SAME THINGS, regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender, gender expression, class, able-bodiedness, age, and sexual orientation.

Looks like some twink from DC found out he had iMovie on his computer one night while he wasn't drunk on box wine...

What's ASTOUNDING is the number of OSTRICHES-with-Heads-in-the-Sand IDIOT self-hating gays who are still defending this corrupt, duplicious, money-grabbing, fascistic leader and his cronies. WAKE UP ASSHOLES.
Posted by: RAY | Mar 2, 2006 10:44:04 AM
Thanks, atl... spoken like a true Bush supporter... apparently anyone who thinks Bush is doing a terrible job as president is unpatriotic. Face it... he's been a very poor steward of the office. Saying that doesn't make me unpatriotic. Quite the opposite.
Posted by: Brian | Mar 2, 2006 10:45:10 AM
ATL wouldn't know patriotic if it came up and shot him in the ass.
Posted by: Tread | Mar 2, 2006 11:09:22 AM
I know this sounds harsh, and really, I pondered whether it was appropriate to say. Probably not, but here goes: ATL, you are fool. An absolute fool. You are free to be with GOP all you want, but if you are delusional enough to think that this president has America's interest at heart, you are simply a fool. Unless of course, you limit your definition of America to rich folks who run corporations and seek profit opportunities in war.

Amen, Kyle.

I am no FOOL - and I think it is perfectly fine to DISAGREE with the President. However, I believe there is a right and a wrong way to disagree. MUCH of what I have seen has been the WRONG way to protest and disagree!
Posted by: ATLSingleMan | Mar 2, 2006 1:01:07 PM
Can't wait for 2008! This guy's been lying since the day he was spawned. I hope they reinstate the draft...THEN there'd be some big ass protests.
Posted by: Myackie | Mar 2, 2006 1:17:03 PM
Well, the caps are more offensive to me than the dissenting opinions because it means you are yelling at us. Please don't do that it is rude and disrespectful.
I am trying to understand what this President has done right. Many of his defenders say we need to let him do his job, we need to support him in a time of war, though I might add here that war was never declared by congress for this conflict only a use of force.
He is in his 6th year and are we better off, are we safer, are our children better educated, have more people become home owners, has the level of poverty decreased, are our streets safer, how is the cure for AIDS, Cancer and other diseases going, how is the recovery of the gulf coast going, are gas prices lower, is a college education or trade school more affordable, do we have better qualified teachers, have property taxes gone down, do we have more police, are gays treated equally, are blacks given the same opportunities as whites, are our borders safer, is our infrastructer still falling apart, how is the manufacturing base that built this country doing. Please someone tell what this President and this congress have done to make this a better nation to leave to the next generation.
I am willing to listen. I am not such a Democrat that I cannot hear what you have to say. I have voted for republicans in the past, I cried at Reagans funeral, Nixon was a crook but there was many successes, GHWB is a good guy, Bill Clinton did cause me some shame, I wish his wife would shut up for awhile. But please tell where the angry loyality comes from for this man President and why I am wrong to oppose him.

To ATL: But you are, Blanch. You are!
Posted by: Kyle Childress | Mar 2, 2006 2:43:59 PM
"how is the cure for AIDS, Cancer and other diseases going"??
um, what? this is the weirdest litmus test for a successful Presidency I have ever heard. Bush is an awful President, yet his detractors consistently make him look good by comparison somehow. it's just sad.
Posted by: Aatom | Mar 2, 2006 3:04:56 PM
He has promised more funding and to focus on these issues. How successful has he been? Has the funding increased like he promised? Have decisions been made for the best of science or for political reasons.
Posted by: Donald | Mar 2, 2006 3:31:44 PM
thank you for putting it in more coherent terms for us. I agree, his record on the science and disease front is abysmal. I just thought "how is the cure coming along?" sounded a bit unreasonable to ask of any one President.
Posted by: Aatom | Mar 2, 2006 3:56:41 PM
AATOM on second reading I suppose I got a little swept up in the moment of trying to figure out what this President has accomplished and my passions got the best of me.
Peace

So what do you think is the right way to dissent, ATL? To sit quietly at home and shake one's head in disapproval? Videos like these are perfect examples of the correct way to dissent, though they are possibly not as effective as they could be. They are peaceful, creative and get their point across, even if being a little cliche.
What problem do you have with this video, anyway? Do you think it's rude to knock on the President of the US via internet video? If so, you're probably seriously missing the point of the protest whoever created the video was trying to get across.

He's more corrupt than Nixon.
Bush Lied, People Died.....

Hello?
As much as I've bn having trouble understanding the words "gay" and "Republican" in the same sentence, do these terms really equate with "self-hatred"? (And, how easy it is to forget that there are Republicans AGAINST Bush.)
Since there are conservatives who are not Republican, maybe "gay" and "conservative" in the same sentence makes more sense. Gay and conservative don't equate with self-hatred. "Right?"

BUSH---WORST PRESIDENT EVER! SUBJECT CLOSED..
All SAD REPUBLICANS AND BUSH-DEFENDERS: Please evacuate Andy's site IMMEDIATELY..you are NOT welcome here!
Posted by: Ray | Mar 2, 2006 9:06:46 PM
I almost feel sorry for ATLSingleMan. His inability to accept the fact that the tide is turning against a leader that provided his people with a false sense of security, safety, strength and integrity is really heartbreaking. Especially because people like him, who make such desperate and hostile declarations, view the collapse of their morally corrupt and dangerous leader as a symbolic indictment against themselves. In a way it is but it's not the end of the world...it's just the beginning.
You're welcome to join us whenever you're ready.

the only thing i am going to say, is get your ass up there, and lead a country.
before you criticize ANYBODY, whether it be George Bush, ATL, Paris Hilton, WHOEVER, put yourself in their shoes. The people on this board don't TRULY know what is going on, just what has been FED to them by the news... whether that is true or not, we don't really know.
I'm not supporting or downing anybody here. But all these protests for PEACE are so hypocritcal. They are burning and destroying things, and talking so much shit.
if you could be president and run a country full of billions of conceded, arrogant, GREEDY, self-absorbed, spoiled people... then go ahead and talk shit. but otherwise, chill out, and have a martini.
