Simon Cowell wants to tear down that bitch of a J Lo house: "'Simon knows what he wants and as soon as he saw J-Lo's house, he had to have it,' our real-estate spy tells us. But it would appear that even Jennifer Lopez's plush pad simply wasn't good enough. When it comes to houses, money is no object for Simon so he hasn't batted an eyelid at spending an extra £3million knocking the place down and rebuilding from scratch. He has certain ideas on what he wants it to look like... and J-Lo's minimalist approach wasn't it."

Gay and straight students mingle at gay-friendly prom in Tracy, California. GSA President Justin Daley: "This was the idea, to have an all-inclusive event. This is what we planned, and this is what we got." Four TV news stations were reportedly broadcasting from the prom, which was also attended by Assemblyman Lloyd Levine, D-Van Nuys, who gave the kids his full support. Fred Phelps' Westboro Baptist Church had threatened to picket the prom with their "God Hates Fags" signage, but failed to show.

A trip to clubland in gay Sao Paulo.
Have U.S. Figure Skating officials had it up to here with Johnny Weir?: "Word within skating circles is that the USFSA is hoping to replace Weir as mens representative for the sport with Lysacek, whom they deem more ‘socially acceptable’, regardless of the fact that he is nowhere near the artist or technician that Weir is."
The Netherlands will not deport gay Iranians, for now, opposing a proposal by Immigration Minister Rita Verdonk to extradite them. Verdonk had suggested that "while gay sex was punishable by death under Islamic law an investigation into the hangings had determined that the pair were hanged not because they were gay but because they had robbed, kidnapped and raped a minor." The Dutch Parliament strongly urged her to speak with them directly and get their story.
Northwest Airlines now charging $15 extra for aisle and exit row seats.

Canadian Olympian Mark Tewksbury is out with a new memoir, Inside Out : Straight Talk from a Gay Jock, in which he reconciles the athletic side of his persona with the gay activist. He tells the Montreal Mirror: "Someone would come up to me and say, ‘You’re a hero, you’re doing all these amazing things!’ I would walk away, and I would think to myself, ‘Would you still think this if you really knew me?’ I felt very dishonest about the double life I was leading....I see a time when someone in a team sport could come out. I think it will happen, probably in the next five years. When that barrier is first broken, it’ll be a big deal. But by the third time, it will no longer be. In my day, you stayed closeted because you risked losing everything—your coach, your job, your financial backing. In 2006, being gay simply doesn’t mean the same level of public disdain that it did."

... if the plane is full.
Seems fair. I should get a discount when stuck in the middle.

If you go to Spokane2007.com, you'll see the figure skating national championship site. Johnny Wier is nowhere to be found, but there's a comment page where people can leave comments like "Where's Johnny Wier? Isn't he the current men's champion?" I did.

When Johnny becomes consistent in competition no one will have the power to keep him from the spotlight. If he keeps skating erraticly and throwing around that big sassy ego, nothing short of a crowbar will keep him in the news. However, once he arrives & plants himself, everyone will have to accept him...sort of a 'Weir here, Weir queer, get used to it.'

In a sport where many of the men seem gay, or at least flamboyant, to suggest that they are blackballing Weir is odd.
Besides, doesn't Evan come across as a bit gay? Maybe Evan is more palatable because he doesn't put on a red glove and call it a swan. Who knows.

***In 2006, being gay simply doesn’t mean the same level of public disdain that it did.***
isn't that the point.....or non-issue. yet, a tad bit more in the realm of pointilism....certainly moves beyond the realm of connecting the dots, painting by numbers, or sofa surfing through the peanut gallery. mentioning the conditions in some arabic countries separate from scrawling slurs on the walls -- disdain is still a strong word. usually, something i hold for waste of any sort. much that is oppression is a waste of any life.

I just checked the website for the USA figure-skating championships in Spokane 2007 - there is a little picture of Johnny Weir next to "Ticket packages on sale now". Wonder what happened?

So I gather Simon C wasn't so much in love with J Lo's home, as the acreage it was on?
PS Where's Miss Lopez going to sleep now?

Check out Johnny Weir's Official Website and his extensive Journal (blog) which contain the writings of a very thoughtful young man. In his last entry, you will see that he is totally aware of what the media is doing to him. Also, he reports significant back trouble which was contributing to his "erratic" skating. Johnny is a major talent and I believe that we should do everything possible to support him. With a little maturity and acceptance of the media spotlight, he will settle down.

So what if the national champ doesn't go to Skate America? Not the first time that happened, even to straight skaters like Elvis Stojko. He wasn't at 1996 Skate Canada either.

I hope Johnny Weir uses his knowlegde of "what the media is doing to him" to understand his role in crafting his media persona with comments like "oh I'm just so revolutionary" like a thousand queens haven't passed before him.
Check yourself.

Ok Mark Tewksbury. Being a gay Canadian swimmer myself, all I can say is go fuck yourself - nobody, especially in the swimming world, cared that you were gay. And the fact that you are trying to exploit the fact that you are gay 12 years after your gold medal win in Barcelona is plain pathetic (read: greedy). You've written a previous book about your swimming career as a gay man, so what exactly differentiates this book from that one? Anyway, sorry about that rant. This site is great BTW. And, adding to other comments, its terrible what they are doing to Johnny Weir. I don't quite understand US ideologies when it comes to homosexuality.
