Sorry to break the news, but Jake Gyllenhaal apparently has a new girlfriend! Watch out for those fishing trips, Gretchen...
Men's magazines face hard times. Suit: "There are a lot of issues that are converging. One is obviously with domestic auto and how they’ve cut back [spending], particularly in magazines. Two, there was a shakeout in the category, and three, the effect of the Internet. You see books that are going directly online or foregoing their print edition because young men are getting their information from the Internet. They’re not looking to wait for a monthly magazine to find out."
Russ Feingold, who recently spoke out in favor of gay marriage, has told Democrats they need to stop being so spineless and stand up to Bush on Iraq: "We must get out of our political foxholes and be willing to clearly and specifically point out what a strategic error the Iraq invasion has been...If we do not show both a practical and emotional readiness to lead in the fight against terrorism, we will lose in '06 and we will lose in '08, just like we did in '02 and '04. How much do I love Russ Feingold? I adore him with the white hot intensity of a thousand suns. It's great to live in Wisconsin and be able to vote FOR someone instead of just picking the one who's least horrifying.
You go, Russ.

Such drama Brian! But you are lucky. I have little Ricky Santorum on the ballot this year, though his dem opponent was the guest speaker at the Philadelphia HRC dinner so there may be hope.

I had the pleasure of hearing Feingold speak last Saturday at the NGLTF Leadership Award ceremony here in DC. He's a great guy who most certainly has my vote and that of every person in the audience.
I agree: You go, Russ! *Two snaps up!*

Gretchen Bleiler? A sporty girl? Please. Mutual beard duty.
Posted by: Sam | May 9, 2006 4:50:33 PM
Uhhhhh
jake's new "girlfriend" is an olympic snowboarder
Me thinks she needed a Muff so she can get endorsement contracts
and he needed a beard because of the past year being photographed only with guys....
lesbians can still lust after her and gays cna still lust after them
this relationship is so beneficial to both they probably have a contract detailing how much time they are supposed to spend together

Good for Feingold. The democrats need to do something major and fast. They have fucked themselves in the last two elections and it has to change. Playin clean has gotten them nowhere.

Yeah looking at that pic from Chef Boyardee makes me pretty skeptical about the whole Jake/Gretchen thing. That was just in February and now suddenly despite looking extremely happy (and loving) with her boyfriend there, she's so serious about Jake that she wants to move to LA with him (a place that'll be harder to keep up with her snowboarding compared to Colorado where she is now)? I just don't buy it (esp. considering it's US magazine). Jake's followed relentlessly by the paparazzi and there's been absolutely no hints towards this girl.

Gee Andy, when did you become a gossip columnist. Whether this Jake/Gretchen story is true or not you seem to not be interested in clearing up the facts. Like the "story" you linked about Jake's "comments" about Gulf War Vets. "AfterElton" posted this on Friday:

HMMM, I WONDER IF THERE IS SOME BROKEBACK BACKLASH INVOLVED
Some trashy internet tabloids reported this week that Jake Gyllenhaal defamed Gulf War vets by saying the Jarheads in the desert mostly sat around, um, pleasuring themselves. The blogs instantly lit up with condemnations of Jake, calling him things not fit to print.
Couple of points to be made here: Starpulse.com (who first reported the story), Digitalspy.com, and Contactmusic.com aren't exactly bastions of journalistic integrity. All three have stirred up trouble for celebrities like Angelina Jolie.
Last month they reported that Ian McKellen complained he was upset the upcoming
X-Men: The Final Stand didn't show him and Patrick Stewart fooling around.
Yup, that one sure had the ring of truth, didn't it?
Jake's character in Jarhead was obsessed with, uh, self-pleasure. Could it be the tabloids are intentionally confusing the actor with his character? And could it be that right-wing bloggers are writing about something that they know nothing about? It wouldn't be the first time."

I'm sorry but this Gretchen chick is heinous. If that is a real relationship Mr. Gyllenhaal can do MUCH better.

Russ Feingold makes me proud to be a Wisconsinite.

Damn, you guys are determined that Jake just not like girls. You know what? I think maybe he does.
As for the mens' mag crisis: I've been wondering when the print would hit the fan. I don't know a soul who actually buys copies of these mags - it's all online.

I echo NS's comment:
"Gee Andy, when did you become a gossip columnist. Whether this Jake/Gretchen story is true or not you seem to not be interested in clearing up the facts. Like the "story" you linked about Jake's "comments" about Gulf War Vets."
What the hell, Andy?
Posted by: John Beene | May 9, 2006 10:10:22 PM
Yeah, people who write blogs should be held to the highest of journalistic standards.
Posted by: Chad Hanging | May 9, 2006 11:15:39 PM
Appreciate the sentiment John Beene.
Apparently since the Jake/Gretchen story appeared earlier today there has been lots of info linking the two that no one paid attention to.
Jake was in Colorado - Aspen - where she lives before he came to NYC last month.
Scroll down to City Spirit.

and this IMDb thread:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0350453/board/thread/40380737?d=40838966#40838966
Keep reading from this post on and it talks about Jake and Gretchen at a party in Aspen and him asking her to the Oscars, etc.
Plus, reports she has been in L.A. recently. Whether they are together or not it is good to know that Jake has a private life and isn't followed by the paps 24/7 as he seems to be. Whatever his sexuality and relationships, he deserves some privacy.

Disregard the IMDb in my last post because it is only speculation. We don't know how factual it is or if the person is telling the truth. I apologize for posting it.
Chad Hanging, no Andy does not have to be held to the highest journalistic standards. It just seems like he is posting a lot more gossip than usual. He seemed to be one for verifying things before just posting rumors.
Posted by: NS | May 9, 2006 11:29:46 PM
So, Andy is a careless gossip columnist and you are a rabid gossip monger. Sounds like a match made on Page Six.
Posted by: Chad Hanging | May 9, 2006 11:41:43 PM
CHAD HANGING, ugh, please. You are calling me names and twisting what I said. I am not a rabid gossip monger and I never called Andy a careless gossip columnist.
Posted by: NS | May 10, 2006 1:13:45 AM
And now you're not even doing a good job of being pedantic. You spend more time on gossip than those you criticize for not getting their gossip right and spend an alarming amount of time researching that gossip and then expect any of us to care that there is a gray area between a gossip columnist and a gossip monger. What's the difference between using a dozen paragraphs to judge a person based on your own self-aggrandizing mischaracterization of their fleeting interests and boiling said activities down to a simple dismissive charge? A whole bunch of fucking pointless typing, that’s the difference.
Get over yourself Rona Barrett.
Posted by: Chad Hanging | May 10, 2006 1:26:43 AM
CHAD HANGING, you don't know me and how much time I spend on gossip or not. Your comments are quite extreme to say the least. I am done with this topic.
Posted by: NS | May 10, 2006 2:06:13 AM
Jake's "girlfriend" (assuming she really is that) is kinda plain looking. I am quite glad of that. Makes plain girls like me feel good. Thank God he isn't another Hollywood actor dating another generic model.
Posted by: Lady Heather | May 10, 2006 2:26:01 AM
Two things:
First, I never agree with Chad, but NS, get over yourself! Chad is correct, what the hell do you think this blog is? Have you ever read it before? If you had you certainly wouldn't be dinging Andy for posting gossip... that's one of the best parts about this blog, it's political AND gossipy! And Chad, the Rona Barret comment is priceless! Again, we usually don't agree but this time you're on the mark!
Second, Go RUSS! This man is clearly marking himself the most viable "alternative" candidate to Hillary. He's strong, he's got a huge set of balls and he's not afraid to show them. Thank God for Russ! Finally, a Democrat who speaks his own mind and is the person to vote FOR instead of the lesser of two evils.

Re: Jake & Gretchen:
Has anyone noticed that really cute (straight?) guys tend to date rather plain-looking chicks? I wonder why that is...
