Canadian census form asks same-sex couples "to check the 'Other' category at the bottom of the list of relationships, rather than checking the top box marked 'Husband or wife.'" Census officials say they didn't have time to change the forms since the Civil Marriage enactment last July.
The Italian stallion: Apparently all that publicity she got from her horse riding accident really went to Madonna's head.
The Mayor of Jerusalem, Uri Lupolianski, has been accused of inciting the violence that led to a stabbing at last year's Jerusalem Pride parade. The victim was at a city meeting recently where the Mayor was asked to provide the capital needed for this year's event and the stabbing victim stood up to face him. Victim David Russo to Lupolianski: "You are afraid of me."

Probably old news to those of you across the pond, but tonight's Dr Who on the Sci-Fi channel introduces a character played by openly gay actor John Barrowman. Barrowman's character Captain Jack is bisexual and will get his own spin-off series soon.
Putting a well-publicized feud behind them, George Michael and his partner Kenny Goss are holding a baby shower for former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell this Sunday: "He's going to fill their home with bright, fresh flowers and balloons. He wants everything to be perfect - like a real, traditional American Park Avenue baby shower. Geri's mum Anna Maria will be there, as will her closest friends. Kenny's also invited all her former bandmates - Emma Bunton and Mel C will be there, but Victoria Beckham had plans she couldn't change in Madrid so she's sent her a beautifully-wrapped present instead."
Colin Farrell out, Heath Ledger in as Bob Dylan.
Male ice skating pair sues Berkeley rink because they were told to stop holding hands: "We were publicly humiliated by having this happen to us and we feel absolutely clear that Monte has a problem with gay skaters. If this could happen in Berkeley, what's going to happen in (a less liberal place). There is homophobia in this sport and if it's coming out in a place like Berkeley, young kids who are in skating are going to feel they can't be out (as gay people)."

Apparently six different actors will take turns portraying Dylan. If Heath is one, then there must've been a moment in Bob's life/career when he was good-looking. Which I never would have believed otherwise.

I'm from Canada and I've just sent in the census. Yes, same-sex married couple was listed as Other. But at least there's same-sex common-law in the list. I guess it would give accurate number of the number of homosexual couples in Canada?

The rink situation could go either way but it wouldn't be the first time in the Bay Area that homophobia has reared its head out of an establishment. If it was homophobia it wouldn't necessarily be and indictment against the policies of the rink but of a 30 year employee who perhaps made a bad decision. People should get over the notion that Berkeley is a gay-friendly bastion. I never recognized homophobia in the bay area until I had a partner I was actually compelled to show affection to or hold hands with in public. That’s when homophobia becomes noticeable tome because that’s when normalized homosexuality becomes noticeable to them. Even in Berkeley, Rockridge we’ve heard heckles, honks and snickers because we’re two men holding hands. Mind you, we are not salacious people. I could see a straight couple cramming their tongues down each other’s throats and no one ever says anything.
Still though, it’s more rare than any other place I’ve lived so I wouldn’t trade the area for say the South regardless of the fact that I could by 3 houses there for the price of 1 here. Oi.

I'm not happy with that wording. It is one of the gay-friendlyest places you'll find in a large area. I just meant that homophobia does exist here whereas you might not have thought it would. Like any neighborhood regarding the crime factor, your world can literally change from block to block from Oakland to SF.
Also, I saw the local report on the rink situation and they made some good points. The general manager said it was simply a safety issue and that they offending manager claimed the couple was performing specific dangerous maneuvers but they said those maneuvers were beyond their capacity and they had cordoned off their space with the cone provided to them by the rink for practice. This is not even interesting enough a news story for me to follow. I’m more concerned with the roving mobs that line our streets occasionally destroying everything in their paths, untouchable by the police who tell us to just stay out of their way until it passes otherwise risk my life. I can’t be gay if I’m dead.
