Mary Cheney:
John Kerry a "Son of a Bitch", Edwards "A Total Slime"
That's apparently how Mary Cheney feels about Kerry and Edwards for bringing up the fact that she's a lesbian during the last election's televised debates:
From The Vancouver Sun:
"'John Kerry didn't 'out me', nor did he offend or attack me by calling me a lesbian. It wasn't a secret that I was gay, and I certainly couldn't be offended by the truth,' she writes. 'What was offensive was that he was obviously trying to use me and my sexual orientation for his own political gain.' Sitting in the studio audience when Edwards mentioned her sexual orientation, Cheney said she looked at the vice-presidential candidate and mouthed the words 'Go Fuck Yourself', a phrase her father had earlier employed against Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy."

Of course, the reason Kerry and Edwards mentioned Mary's gayness is because George Bush decided to use gays as a, if not "the," political issue of the 2004 elections. How did Mary react to Bush using her sexual orientation for his own political gain?In her interview with Diane Sawyer, Cheney said of Bush: 'I think he's a very good man. On these issues, he hasn't caught up.'
Now you have a much larger window into Mary's mind, and closet. In her own personal Stockholm Syndrome, the gay-bashers who started the fight are good people who just haven't 'caught up' yet. The gay-defenders fighting back are 'sons of bitches,' 'slime,' and need to 'go fuck' themselves.
And yes, we all know that Kerry, Edwards, and most of the Dems, also have a lot of work to do in their support of gay rights.

Yes, now the real republican emerges. We see now that Mary is not the sweet suffering gay daughter that everyone thinks. She has her father's potty mouth and his vindictiveness. Kerry and Edwards were just trying to point out the hypocrisy of the Republican party.

Both parties would sell gays, Blacks, women, immigrants and everyone else down the river if they thought it would get them votes. Unfortunately, the political system in this country is devoid of real leadership that transcends politics and focuses on issues. I'm glad people like Mary Cheney and the Empire State Pride Agenda are taking the Dems to task for their lack of support of our civil rights; and I'm glad so many gay groups are taking the Republicans to task for the same.

She became a target, like any politician's family does, when they enter the public sphere. I remember the press talking rough about Amy Carter, The Reagan kids, Chelsea Clinton, and there are the infamous Bush twins.
Mary needs a wake up call and a sincere wake up call. I know about family loyalty, every gay person anywhere knows about this. Overbearing family loyalty keeps us in our "place" in the "closet"
As far as I'm concerned, it's she who needs to go into a dark, dark room and fornicate with herself until she realizes the base betrayals against her other family that she has been a direct and inderect party to.

John Kerry mentioned Mary Cheney's orientation during that debate because it wasn't a secret AT ALL, and because the reportedly loving and supportive relationship that the Cheneys have with their daughter is in stark contrast to the domestic policies that Cheney and Bush work so hard to promote. If Mary Cheney wasn't in the closet, then I fail to see how it was in poor taste to point out her father's obvious hypocrisy... am I missing something? Maybe someone can enlighten me. It didn't strike me as malicious at all, although exposing hypocrisy is always uncomfortable for the hypocrite.

Is there a forum for lesbians such as this one? If so I would like to hear what they say about all this. Although I agree with the above sentiment, we do come aff as bitchy queens instead of angered gay men. I would like to see B.J King or Martina or k.d.Lang come across with some insite and anger about this user.

Gays were "the" issue of the 2004 Presidential election? Maybe in an alternate universe. For the general population war, security, and the economy were all much more important issues. Only in the "political closet" of extreme left wing gay Democrats (is that redundant?) was the issue of "gays" the most important issue of the 2004 election. And, I see by the above posts that our community is it's usually tolerant self for anyone daring to have an opinion that does not exactly conform to the accepted political norm of the fanatics on the left; even when that opinion concerns ones own self.

Ron, I agree, these boards can get bitter and defensive at times, but look at what we're up against! The Republican Wing-Nuts are now marching one of our own, yes, Mary is one of us based on sexual orientation, and they're using her to show their "support" of our causes.
