Boy George Referred to Sanitation Department

After missing a court appearance related to his cocaine charges last fall, Boy George was scolded by a New York judge today and told that unless he completed his community service he would be sent directly to jail, without passing Go.

Boygeorge_1Said Judge Anthony Ferrara: "You have to do the community service. It's up to you whether you make it an exercise in humiliation or in humility. If you don't do the community service, I'll make you a promise: You're going through that door."

Boy George's lawyer Louis Freeman said the singer would have rather "worked with an HIV/AIDS charity while taking part in an outpatient drug-treatment program for himself." Instead, George will most likely be doing some form of manual labor: "He'll probably be raking leaves in Central Park, or something like that."

I'm not sure how much leaf raking goes on in Central Park before August 28th, but that's when he's required to have completed his sentence.

  1. Abjuring from singing would be the best community service.

  2. Having gone through rehab myself, I agree with the judge and his statement about O'Dowd needing a lesson in humility. It's an admission of the fact that you are an addict, not that you were stupid and got caught. Hopefully he is attending an out patient anyway as opposed to making it a condition of his community service.

  3. Whining and moaning about the indignity of it all will only make the issue more of a humiliating media spectacle. If he just did it with a good heart and a laid-back attitude, the photos that will undoubtedly be taken will be so much less hurtful. Raking leaves isn't glamorous work, but it's honest work... and it's not even that humiliating. (Who among us hasn't raked leaves at some point?) The only person who can make this cushy sentence into something demeaning is George. Frankly he should be glad he's not rotting in jail, like anyone else would be after being found with 10 bags of coke in their apartment. For Christ's sake, honey. Be a man.

  4. Talk about not growing older with grace. Your days of being pampered and fawned over are long gone. Stop pouting and start raking.

  6. Sigh.....

Years ago, when he sang Do you really want to hurt me ... the world said no, to a fun loving strange looking queen. Now all I can think is yes, someone push him off a cliff. Trash picking up trash, how fitting.
