Brandon Routh: "I'm Not Gay"

Brandon Routh, in Australia for promotion of Superman Returns, told the Sydney Morning Herald that he is prepared for the onslaught of fame: "It will be different. Every day I am learning how to deal with it and make it work for me ... I don't have any secrets so it will be fine."
Of Superman's gay vibe, Routh said: "You find whatever message you want. Everybody is going to interpret the film differently...People will see the movie and realise that Superman is certainly not gay. And I am not (gay) as well, but people will have that discussion as much as they want - it is a topic for people to talk about."

He's a very nice-looking guy but as far as Superman goes, I don't know...I can't help but feel he looks a little nondescript...

Well, they said the same things about Toby Maguire going into the first "Spiderman", and he truely made the role his own by impressing the world with a strong performance. I hope that Brandon Routh has the same perserverance and underlying talent. Perhaps he can resurrect the franchise for a few more outings.
I also hope that this "Superman is GAY" crap ceases. After the rubber nipples in "Batman Returns", I stopped paying attention to this pointless line of homo hype. If he looks good in tights up on the screen, that's all the visual I certainly need for what ever fantacy I can conjur up.

Wow, some of those other photos look horrible. The ones with the wet shirt by the pool surprisingly look so blah which I didn't know could be possible with such a handsome guy with a great body. He seems to have little personality in front of a still camera as well. Have we ever seen this guy's teeth in a photograph? Also, I agree with Pink that the photograph of him lounging in his pajamas while a little boy dressed as Superman is on standing on a ledge looking like he is about to jump is rather creepy.

Am I the only one who finds this whole topic utterly ridiculous? Not only is Superman a FICTIONAL character, there has been nothing throughout the history of the comic book series or previous Superman movies to indicate that his character would be gay. His only romantic depiction is with WOMEN. You boys need to quit putting your hopes that every hot guy who wears sheer clothing is gay....whether fictional or not! Just because you WANT him to be gay, let's not lose our grip on reality!

Sometimes it's all very tiring when the gay folk (myself included) project our sexuality onto others (other actors, characters, etc.) in an attempt to somehow find validation.

Hooray! Finally, a chorus of reason on the whole craptastically ignorant rant about the gayness of the Superman movie. Jeez, why can't some people realize how homophobic it is to say that because the director of a movie is gay anything with which he is associated is "gay"?
A cool picture of Superman floating over the Earth suddenly becomes a "gay" picture because Florida is beneath him.

Perhaps some gay men project their fantasies on straight actors/celebrities because there are so few gay actors/celebrities who are out. It also has to do with the whole "straight acting" preference many gay men have, or that hope when they were younger that the cool guy you went to school with could like you or be like you (gay). There's nothing wrong with appreciating the beauty of a beautiful man (gay or straight), but to make insinuations that the straight guy is gay just to make oneself feel better about who they themself are is not really healthy in my opinion. By constantly looking into the straight male pool of men as some kind of ideal really puts down the actual gay men who are out there by suggesting they're not good enough. A rhetorical question to all... If you were given the choose between having a relationship with a really hot gay guy or a one night stand with a straight guy, which would you choose?

Let's face it.... within a few weeks after this latest "Superman" flick is released very few people will even remember or care who Brendan Routh is or even with whom he prefers to have sex. He's a cutie, but not really remarkable in any way.
Good luck to him, but I don't have high hopes for his film and really don't think that his protests of "I'm not gay" are going to matter at all once he bombs at the box office.
I have no problem with him being straight - no one is perfect ;) - but one would think that he'd enjoy the celebrity and $$$$$ that legions of loyal gay fans could bring him. As for me, I will keep my gay dollars in my pocket and probably won't even waste a slot in my Netflix queue for yet another rehash of the "Superman" tale.

He's probably not gay. He did a perfect gay guy for the episode of "Cold Case" I saw the other day. Seems that only straight guys can portray gay guys faithfully in films and tv. Common queens get it together.

all i have to say is that this whole "superman is gay!!" thing is such a waste of time!! why are ppl calling someone gay when they dont evn know the duy!! come on this is just a freakin waste of time, im straight and guess wut kinda vibe i got off him , a straight vibe, come on whoever started this rumor was prolly a gay person gettin a boner er sumthin!! now since that subject is a waste of time cuz hes NOT gay imma talk bout the movie, i thought the movie was AWESOME!! it was great, i mean i cannot believe POTC2 got the biggest money n history cuz that movie wasnt evn near as good as superman, i think brandon, who i think is a very handsome guy, played very good on this movie. ive seen it about 4 times and prolly another 4 times cuz the movie is great!!

Saw Superman last night. I think we all wish he was gay, who Would Not!
As an actor I thought he was even better then and Superman. His feelings where there with ever moment the Love that was exposed and the love for a Son he will know but an emotional connection for him.
I can only hope to see much more of this man

Brandon Routh is a goodlooking guy but he has to learn and enhance his acting. I have nothing against him and i think he is a nice guy but the performace isnt that good.
