Police upgrade investigation of Chicago library gay book burning to a possible hate crime. The library is known for having the largest collection of gay and lesbian books of any Chicago branch library. Close to 100 books were damaged in the fire.
Granite monument to 1984 hate crime murder victim Charlie Howard still divides Bangor, Maine. Howard was tossed off a bridge by three teenagers, had an asthma attack and drowned. The teens had targeted him for being “flamboyantly gay.”
Murder of 43-year-old gay Texas man Arnulfo Aguilar not yet being called a hate crime. Chief Deputy Craig Brady: “It is too early to tell from the information I have. It very well could be a hate crime or it could just be that they figured he would be an easy target and weren't really motivated because he was gay.”
