News: John Travolta, Latvian Pigs, Tate Modern...

road.jpg Today, AfterElton posted a really lovely profile on Towleroad and its evolution. I'm flattered and grateful. Thanks, guys!

Tate_1road.jpg The Tate Modern in London is about to get a lot bigger. And a gay hotel has become the #1 rated spot to stay in London, according to the website tripadvisor.com.

road.jpg Latvian Interior Minister defends the police and not the gays after violent Latvian pride incidents: "In fact, [the police] were the ones who suffered most. They were pelted with eggs and excrements. The pressure was enormous, and it was hard to resist taking sides. Therefore I reiterate one more time that our police force did a great job and anything of that kind was prevented from happening in Latvia."

road.jpg John Travolta does some method acting for his new film, Wild Hogs.

road.jpg Slovenia legalizes same-sex marriages. However, there's one stipulation: "No friends, relatives or any third person are allowed to attend the ceremony, which can be held only in a state office."

road.jpg No more sex: Is George Michael's singing career scandal-proof? Apparently not.

  1. A top-rated hotel in Stockwell? Wow, that's the NYC equivalent of the dodgiest part of Queens.

Good PR for them in any case ... but advisor.com (the source of the rating) doesn't come up on my browswer as a "traveller review webiste." It's mostly IT advice and "Griffin House" doesn't come up in its search engine.

  5. Fabulous article Andy. I am a big fan and I live in West Village too but one of my biggest frustrations is I've never seen you in person. Not even from a distance....so if one of these days you get tackled to the curb by a slobbering dude...guilty!!

  8. I don't think it's nice to make fun of someone for gaining weight. None of us are perfect! This site is great, but the constant focus on appearance is annoying!

  9. "I feel like the majority of readers who comment, only choose to comment when they dislike something, or disagree with [my] point of view, and often come from fairly vitriolic and bitter perspectives."

I'm honestly curious and not hating: do you have any idea how hubris-fueled you sound? Isn't the whole point of allowing comments to open the door to those who disagree or who have different perspectives (however "vitriolic" you imagine them to be)? And even though the topic at hand is just a blog, the whole it's-not-me-it's-them mentality is beyond irresponsible.

  14. Having discovered Towleroad relatively recently, it was great to learn some background about both blog and blogger. It's just the right balance of serious topics and guilty pleasures. Keep up the great work!

  16. Andy: Great profile, FABULOUS PICTURE of you (86 the shirt, sometime) and good recap of Towleroad's evolution. I am one of those who likes your occasional personal musing. Your latest trip to P-Town, though, captured that intimacy while still presenting more serious stuff.

Great Job and thanks to AfterElton.

  17. Lovely sentiments at AfterElton, but I truly expected you to be flanked by Jake and Lance in the photo. They must have tipped off to the loo.

  18. Andy, the profile was really well-deserved. You and NYTimes.com are my daily sources for the news. I told you at a retail event last year--towleroad is what The Advocate, Out, and Genre WISH they were. Keep on keepin' on!

  19. I agree with Rich. You sound like a total dueche bag.

  20. Rocco,
Sweetie, dahlink, you might consider changing your name to Vitriola.

Posted by: Crixi VanCheek | Jul 27, 2006 12:53:06 PM

  21. Rocco: You are so wrong. Andy is a DOUCHE bag. Sheesh, wait 'til Leland gets his hands on you!

  22. Indeed, it is a great location if you like clubbing in the capital - Vauxhall itself isn't the best place in the world for finding a quality hotel, gay friendly or otherwise.
