News: Lance & Reichen, Andy Roddick, Crackberries

road.jpg Heterosexual woman files suit against the state of Washington, saying her male partner should receive health care benefits based on the state's anti-discrimination law that was designed to protect gay and lesbian domestic partners.

Lanchen_1road.jpg Page Six is reporting that unambiguously gay duo Lance and Reichen, who were out in the Hamptons recently to host an event at the Bridgehampton Polo Club, turned up their noses at swank million-dollar estate Stereo house when the accomodations weren't up to their standards: "At 3 a.m., they found the place 'seedy' and the pool covered with a moldy tarp. Stereo co-owner Mike Satsky told Page Six's Sarah Polonsky, 'The Stereo House is a $7 million estate where celebrities from Wilmer Valderrama to Scarlett Johansson and Lydia Hearst have stayed.' The boys ended up staying at WCBS/Ch. 2 meteorologist John Bolaris' house instead."

road.jpg The movie version of Alan Bennett's The History Boys is headed to theaters in October. Trailer.

road.jpg There's a reason they're called CrackBerries: "Blackberry email devices can be so addictive that owners may need to be weaned off them with treatment similar to that given to drug users, experts warned today...They said the palmtop gadgets...could be seriously damaging to mental health...The study, carried out by New Jersey's Rutgers University School, claims the Blackberry is fuelling a rise in email and internet addiction, with sufferers able to survive only a few minutes without checking for new mail."

road.jpg Ricky Martin is a poof-ter...

road.jpg Superman Brandon Routh gets engaged: "She brings me to my knees."

road.jpg Out of the closet: Trey Parker and Matt Stone get two picture deal at Paramount, announced on day of Cruise severance.

  1. Andy Rod dick is such a cutie. That boy needs to turn gay!

  2. The presence of Wilmer Valderrama, Scarlett Johansson and Lydia Hearst might explain the mold in the tarp.

  3. Suffering Meat Puppets! Is this turning into Reichenroad? And he's not even in his favorite state--"of undress" (well, favorite after "Bottom"). Bring back the Madge minutae. Brokeback Mountain. Christo. Anything but daily updates on the guy whose only unique achievement is figuring out a way to stop the 15 Minutes of Fame clock. Even if his and Bassinette's concocted-in-a-golddigger's-laboratory relationship only lasts until October, then we'll be assaulted with all the folly around release of his book--the printed equivalent of autofellatio. If we must see him everyday, at least he could show his ass. Or is that redundant?

  4. Um Tagg, was that the gay version of Jive/Ebonics that you just type that comment in.

Dumb fags are gross but know-it-all ones are even worse.

  5. Check out this video of Mr. Reichen at the Hampton's event, apparently after a few too many martoonies. Why does alcohol make some people's eyes bulge like Barbara Bush—or think they need to explain that the Air Force Academy is operated by the military?

Think Mel Gibson would like him as a roommate in rehab?

  6. Tagg,

He's cute. So, what about it? Must we see some ass every day to reassure us? Come now.

  8. Andy,

I loooove reading about reverse discrimination cases! What a joke!

Ricky Martin poof? Well, uh, yes, as per usual. He's in competition with the Hell Big Jake G poof, doncha know?

    =)

  9. My favorite line from the Brandon Routh story is this one:

The couple, who have been dating for three years, will costar in the upcoming short film Denial. They plan to wed next fall.

  10. On Lance/Reichen:
OK.... This relationship is getting a little too damn weird.

  11. Actually I don't mind reading stories on Reichen...just as long as you air brush Lance out of the photos LOL

BTW did someone mention that Reichen was a bottom??? If so then NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...my fantasy is ruined.

And a scary thought to go with that would be that would make Lance the top!!! *shriekes*

  12. Surely we can do better than the L&R banter that permeates the blogosphere. On the basis of the time I've spent with them, I found Lance and Reichen to be nice guys. Since we all live in glass houses we might want to think twice before launching the stone throwing. Not that I've always been perfect on that score, but it's a work in progress.

Of course, I have been accused of being naive before.

  13. Lavi: I heard there's an 800 # for "Guys Who Have Been Sat Upon Then Spat Upon By Reichen" -- even a "Little Sisters" affinity group of women he's led on. Maybe if you Googled, "Reichen" and "Chip Arndt" and "Lane Twins" and "James Gabbert" and "Charlie Orozco" and "Louis Coraggio" and ......

Lance dated this guy for over a year just before he and Reichen got together. He had just graduated law school and was really, really, sweet---seemed a lot more genuine than publicity-hound Reichen. I know he was forced to stay in the closet for Lance---but not sure what he's up to now.

  15. Lavi: If you were with Lance and Reichen at a public event, then they were PERFORMING!! I've seen these two in a more intimate setting, and things are far from perfect for the two of them. There's a lot of jealousy, and insecurity. Lance is TERRIFIED that Reichen cheats on him

  16. Not sure if I should bother... I didn't say R was perfect or that his relationship with L was perfect. My main point was: what's the point of this continual invective? I had a nice time with them at the wine tasting and later at the club. I didn't claim to know every aspect of their lives. Over the past ten years, I had the chance to meet and get to know Lou, Charlie and Chip---nice guys all. If they were mistreated, I of course share J.P.'s dismay, though I probably wouldn't post it quite so colorfully on the internet.

I try to stay away from hand-wringing generally, but I don't know what we gain from the re-cycling of gossip and tearing people down. It's just a lot of negativity in my opinion. We should try to find the best in people (including ourselves) and build up our community. Now there's a challenge... Look, these guys are not idols, they are just human beings, with good and bad aspects to them like everyone else.

  17. Mr. Soloway, may I call you Chatsworth? "Over the past ten years" is an odd time frame because ten years ago Mr. Lehmkuhl was still in the Air Force and it would be three more years before he met the first of the names you dropped. But the larger point is that he ran into the public arena, no one dragged him there, and has increasingly presented himself as, if not an idol (yet), someone to admire. Perhaps it is that, compared to what he has actually done versus what he has said, that has generated the enormous amount of mud slung toward him, both on and off the Internet. Our community may be starved for role models and leaders, but that doesn't mean we have to swallow whole every self-anointed "celebrity activist" that comes along…dragging their soft porn photos behind them. As the saying goes, "Pretty is as Pretty does."

  18. I bow out. All I meant by "over the past ten years" was that I met Chip in the mid 1990s, the others in subsequent years since. It had nothing to do with Reichen, who I first met when we were seated together at a GLAAD dinner six or seven years ago. (I don't know why you had to call it "odd" but that's really trivial, there's a larger issue which I think you are correct to address.)

I think you and I agree on much more than we disagree, especially with regard to role models and leaders. However, I'm probably better off retiring back to my "if you don't have something nice to say..." mode. I am not sure I'm convinced there is any need to contribute to the pervasive incivility in the media and blogosphere, but I do agree that since public figures do put themselves in the crosshairs so they probably expect some unwanted attention to their every foible, conceit, misstep and wrongdoing.

We don't have to and WE SHOULD NOT swallow blindly everything marketed to us by public figures or celebrities, gay or otherwise, you are right. We should be encouraging and supporting more folks to come out whether they be the gay refugees I work with in my day job, or celebs or politicians or anyone else. We should not be blind in our support of gay celebs or leadership.

Naively, perhaps, I was hoping to make the point that our energies might be better directed to working to make a more receptive and supportive environment for others to come out, rather than throw all this mud around. But as I said, I bow out.
