Andy Warhol: A Documentary Film screens tonight and tomorrow night on PBS. The four-hour documentary cost nearly $4 million to make and filmmaker Ric Burns is still looking to raise the money ($225,000) he needs to finish paying for it, according to the NYT.
The film is a sweeping look at Warhol's life and art that was apparently quite difficult to get made. Said producer Daniel Wolf: "The difficulty raising money was a confirmation of why we needed to make this film. He was branded this gay, weird, partygoing genius and not the great artist he should have been known as."
Here's another review of the film from the Seattle Times.
You can watch a short preview at the PBS website.

I am INCREDIBLY upset that they had difficulty getting money. He was the leading figure of pop art which still influences design from TARGET to the Bush administration. Those TARGET commercials -Andy Warhol. Repeating background for a Bush speech - Andy Warhol.

Warhol was so kind to me when I met him, I was also lucky to meet 2 of the models from the 'Ladies & Gentlemen' silkscreen editions in Manhattan where they would all tell me 'Oh honey just put your coat in the bathtub'.. being an impressionable teen during some of the Warhol years will make me say Thanks Andy.. you're still the best..

Call me naive, but why can't the producer/creater get money from the Warhol's estate to finish the film. And what about all those people who are rich enough to own Warhol originals?
I saw last's nights episode also. It was wonderful. I now realize that Warhol was a fascinating person, and as openly gay, he was someone we should be proud of. I can't wait until tonight's episode. There should be reminiscences(looked up the spelling for that one) and footage of Candy Darling, Holly Woodlawn and Jackie Curtis: those magnificent 1960's drag queens.

I saw the program last night and it was great. It explained his humble and troubling beginning to his fast rise to the top of the art world. Tonight we will see what happened after that. PBS 9:00 P.M. EST
