Lane Hudson, Blogger who Exposed Mark Foley, Speaks
In his first public interview since the Mark Foley scandal broke, blogger and former HRC employee Lane Hudson tells the Washington Blade that though he knew his efforts to expose the Congressman's interaction with pages might have political implications, they were in no way meant as a sort of "October surprise" meant to influence the November elections.
Said Hudson: "[Such accusations] only [serve] to distract from the real issue here. And the real issue is that there was a predator in Congress who, over the course of his 12 years of service, was continuously seeking out pages with unethical, immoral and inappropriate intentions. And now he’s not there. And anyone who wants to say anything different is endorsing the idea that these activities should have continued."
Hudson expresses his frustration over the willful ignorance by certain members of Congress of Foley's inappropriate advances. In fact, Hudson himself had contact with Foley as an intern at the White House under Bill Clinton in 1995. Soon after meeting Foley at a bar with other interns, the congressman made email contact. Hudson says "it was nothing explicit, nothing very salacious" though he admits to being somewhat naive at the time.
Hudson says he's not surprised he was fired by HRC and doesn't hold it against them as he understands what the linking of his blog to HRC computers meant to the organization. He also insists his efforts were not motivated by partisan politics but by a desire to expose the corruption he witnessed and heard about from others: "It disappointed me hugely that the gilded halls of Congress, one of the longest, continuously operating governments in the world, allows stuff like this to happen. And I wanted to do something about it."

No wonder we haven't heard from him until now. That pornstar name was a good cover.

I congratulate Lane and hope we'll hear more from him. I'd like to hear what he thought of the blogger who outed him, whose i.d. is still (unless I'm behind the times) a mystery.

I don't care if he meant it as an October surprise or not--exposing hypocrisy is a good thing to do. If it helped in bringing down this arrogant party for awhile I'm all for it.

I find it disingenuous for him to claim he had no idea it would be an "October surprise". As a HRC employee and Beltway-resident that's like claiming "surprise" that the Sun might actually rise in the East. Like any good hunter, he waited and waited until he had the perfect shot that would do the most damage.

Mr. Hudson is an envious queen that did what he did because he was not one of the selected ones. Evil queens like Mr. Hudson are the reason why gays have such a bad image and are hated worldwide. He(she) should be ashamed of himself (herself). Queen.

Knowing what he did, it was good he came forward. Why didn't he go to authorities? If they spurned him they should be investigated. One other questions, how long did he have this information before coming forward?

Sorry guys but Hudson's argument is pretty solid. If you question his motives you are basically saying Foley's behavior is ok. Any attempt to question the political motivation behind this is trumped by the corruption of Mark Foley. Sorry guys you just can't claim the moral ground on this one.
Sorry it stings so bad.

Mr. Hudson is a hero. He gave the Republican Party a much deserved kick in it's hypocritical ass. Democrats aint no honest Abe's either, but we don't enact laws to f__k
with people's lives and rights as human beings.
Damn, come to think of it, his contribution to the outcome of the 2006 election was historical! Aint that right, George Allen?

I agree that he did the right thing. However, I am a little confused. Just how old where these pages? I mean if they were 17 or older, he was not a pedophile.
