Leslie Kee Exhibit Too Hot for Hong Kong?

Leskliekee

Singaporean photographer Leslie Kee's traveling exhibition "Super Stars", which features photos of hundreds of Asian entertainers, has upset a couple of Chinese actors who feel their images are "too racy for public consumption."

One of them is pop star/actor Aaron Kwok, in the upper-right hand corner of the photo above (and a big version after the jump below), who says he wore a swimsuit in the shoot and his photo was digitally altered to make him appear naked.

Another pop star/actor, Andy Hui, has also objected. Said his manager: "We think the pictures are beautiful. It's a healthy form of sexiness, but we also understand if the pictures are released they'll provoke a reaction. It may not be suitable."

"Super Stars" has also been published in book form to raise money for victims of the 2004 Tsunami.

  1. Oh well, we'll never know what exactly transpired during the photo-shoot. The pictures, however, are gorgeous - they really up the ante for Asian celebs as sex objects!

  2. I love how he shoots his subjects. All of his male subjects are powerful and masuline. It's something that people seldom see from the Asian comunity. I dig it.

  3. Any idea where the book can be purchased?

  4. Personally, I dun believe what those "stars" said as they're not the little girls first came into the entertaining biz. And what Andy Hui said today was totally different from yesterday, that made me looking down on him.

For Chase, you could get the book online in most Japanese bookstores and I have collected some photos online for the book that you could have a preview.

  5. Yeah, that's acting coy and passive-aggressive advertising of the racy portfolio!

  6. hong kong male celebs are such babies, they are actually enjoying this free publicity.. as if they didn't know what Leslie was going to publish.. right.. their manangers should be fired...how could they not know that the pics will show their pubes? Give me a break..if Britney can show her pussy, this is really nothing.

  7. Leslie is one of my best friends and he has sent me a newspaper report that clears any misunderstanding that the doctored photo of Aaron Kwok was not approved.

Leslie has grand ideas to break the mould of how Asians are perceived but finds the Asian market uptight. He suggested the idea to Aaron's manager who asked Leslie to photoshop the original so that Aaron appears seemingly naked. I don't know if they are trying to create news out of nothing, but Leslie has the best intentions.

He finds it amusing and frustrating that the Asian media should find such arty photos that show pubes such a great deal and are trying to create negative publicity for his book, when it is also for a charitable cause. All profits from the sales of the book will actually go to the victims of the Asian tsunami.

Therefore, please do not condone such talent and support the cause!! Lastly, it is a limited edition of only 7000 copies, so try and get a copy ASAP!

  8. The book is terrific, but it has just been banned in Singapore, the home nation of the photographer. Even though nothing more salacious than pubic hair is shown, and the book retails for US$300, thereby putting it quite out of reach of most Singaporeans, let alone minors, Singapore's Nannies-in-Government feel the book will have a corrupting influence on the nation.
