  1. " Schools want to provide as much information as possible to parents about a suspension."

Riiiight. If that's the case, then report every heterosexual kiss to the students' parents as well. Hypocrites. I don't normally cry foul, but FOUL

  2. Global warming scares the sh&% out of me. As a extreme as this might sound, but let's see how important the economy and terrorism are when we don't have a planet to live on. To think it won't happen or effect us, nature can and will flick us off like a tick when she's had too much. Human's are an arrogant lot, aren't we...

  6. Muchas gracias for the Tracey Thorn news/link, Andy. It's been far, far too long. OK, back to more serious comments on global warming and such.

  7. Zapatero is the Prime Minister of Spain......not the President......they have a King as head of state.

As to Global warming....I wouldn't invest to heavily in beachfront property if I were you. The chances that humans will wake up and do something are slim to none.

  8. But, i though Bush and Cheney controlled the weather. Wasn't it Bush who used his "Weather Controlling Machine" to harness the power of the weather and kill (only blacks) in New Orleans!

But, didn't the UN just release a report that down played the Global Warming Phenomenon... google it!

Wasn't another report just released that showed that COWS not SUV's are by far the biggest polluter of green house gases! (no pun) google it!

PLEAZZZE people, i remember in the mid-seventies when environmentalist we're spewing that a coming "ICE-AGE" would destroy the earth as we know it. According to those reports it should be snowing year around in Palm Springs now!

Think of it this way...the thermometer was invented in 1714...so we've got a few hundred years of data that scientists are taking and using to extrapolate millions of years of earth's weather data/temps to then extrapolate their predictions that in 40 years we will all be under water/dead.

It is ridiculous of man to think for even a moment that he has any control over the weather! Come On...IT'S THE WEATHER! Local weather men can't even predict the weather report correctly for next weekend, let alone what the weather will be like in say 40 years.

The entire global warming phenomenon is POLITICAL! environmentalist have embraced the idea to stick it to big oil and the automobile industry and scientist don't get grants and funding for ideas that aren't, let’s say..."sexy".

GRANTED: maybe it’s getting a bit warmer, we may be going through a warm cycle, BUT, the world coming to end! An inconvenient truth!?!? PLEAZZZE why don’t you just cut off your head and run around screaming "the sky is falling" "the sky is falling"... some gullible fool is bound to believe you!

    ad hominem attacks to follow...

  12. Mark, as someone who researched both sides of the issue extensively, I can honestly say that if you believe cows flatulence is the prime cause of Global Warming, than you have more serious issues than you realize. A White House cabinet with heavy personal investments and ties with oil companies campaigns for a war in Iraq for oil (c'mon, you can't deny it, even the Rpublikkklan pin-up girl Ms. Ann Coulter concedes that in a speech she made - you can see it on youtube) and has been caught with documents recommending replacing scientists whose empirical research supports that humanity is speeding up the natural process of global climate change with scientists that agree with the "economic principles of our nation" doesn't have ANY credence with fact or scientific certainty. FACT: fossil fuels are speeding up the natural global climate that naturally MAY occur over thousands of years to just a few short decades. The global temperature has RISEN 2 degrees Celsius, a fact most scientists, if not all, concede is catastrophic. FACT: As fresh water melts from the North Pole and is carried down the Atlantic, the salinity of the warmer, denser water is pushed down as colder, fresh water replaces it in tropical climates. As the oceanic belt is a major factor in global climate regulation, the rapid disruption of the oceanic belt system will, in time, essentially reverse the poles. Thus global climate will respond by producing warmer climates in the poles and cooler near the equator. Recall the movie, "The Day After Tomorrow"? Now, the movie PREMISE is based on very current scientific revelations and models given very serious credibility. However, the movie deviates from fact in its extreme treatment of the results as such a rapid response would never (knock on wood) occur. However, over a few years, gradually it will. Besides the rise in sea level, love of land and coastal cities, the extinction of sea animals and other mammals that rely on ecosystems in fresh warm water consequently destroyed by these global changes, as well as thicker and much more humid air, what else do you need to realize THIS IS A REALITY! Instead of taking bias news from a bias American cabinet, go out and open your ignorant mind to the reality that billions of other individuals and hundreds of very well established governments such as the UK, Japan and Brazil acknowledge this reality and are well under way in making adjustments. Brazil will officially declare energy independence next year as ethanol derived from corn grown in Brazil will supply most of the fuel in vehicles, etc. as well as local oil. In America, we have manufacturers developing "muscle cars" and SUV's to sell, sell, sell to the ignorant consumer base that wants to have it "their way". American consumerism and arrogance in "I want it my way, now!" coupled with big businesses greed and desire to make profits are what is destroying this planet. In 1839, Sir William Robert Grove, a Welsh judge, inventor and physicist, conceived the first fuel cell. He mixed hydrogen and oxygen in the presence of an electrolyte, and produced electricity and water. The invention, which later became known as a fuel cell, didn't produce enough electricity to be useful. Point is, hydrogen fuel cell was invented almost 200 years ago! We have microprocessors the size of dimes that can do anything, yet we still have the combustion engine??? In the beginning of the 20th century, Los Angeles had the best mass transit electrical train system until it was put out but the GM scandal, as with many other urban strongholds. Government attorney Bradford Snell has written that in 1949 GM and its partners in NCL were convicted in U.S. District Court in Chicago of criminal conspiracy in this matter and fined US$5,000 each for anti-trust violations (contracts in restraint of trade, i.e. forcing subsidiaries to buy products from their owners: GM buses, Firestone tires, Standard and Phillips oil).
The claim above is often repeated and is based on testimony by Snell to a United States Senate inquiry in 1974.
The case ultimately reached the United States Supreme Court in United States v. National City Lines Inc. 334 U.S. 573, 596 (1948) ("National City I")[1] which reversed lower court rulings on the case.
The proceedings were against General Motors and its subsidiary National City Lines, along with seven other corporations. They were indicted on two counts under the US Sherman Antitrust Act. The charges, in summary, were:
    Conspiring to acquire control of a number of transit companies, forming a transportation monopoly;
All defendants were acquitted on this charge.
Conspiring to monopolize sales of buses and supplies to companies owned by National City Lines.
General Motors alone was convicted on this charge.
Corruption occurs, especially in America and ESPECIALLY when money is involved. In the fourth quarter of 2005 Exxon reported the highest profit ever of $10.7 billion. This was in a time when oil companies, specifically Exxon, claimed oil prices skyrocketed due to Katrina and the Middle East/War in Iraq crisis. If that was the case, and oil prices increased because the oil companies were spending more money to acquire said oil, then it stands to reason that their profits would REMAIN THE SAME. So why the largest profit in recorded history, especially when gasoline consumption even LOWERED due to the higher prices? Go out Mark, and any one else, and educate yourself. Learn about what you can do to make things better. If you can brave it, watch "An Inconvenient Truth". It is NOT a democratic liberal agenda or Al Gore propaganda, Gore's not even going to run for office again. It is a fact-based documentary that even received praise from conservatives.
    Facts:
Scientists see it in tree rings, ancient coral and bubbles trapped in ice cores. These reveal that the world has not been as warm as it is now for a millennium or more. The three warmest years on record have all occurred since 1998; 19 of the warmest 20 since 1980. And Earth has probably never warmed as fast as in the past 30 years - a period when natural influences on global temperatures, such as solar cycles and volcanoes should have cooled us down. Studies of the thermal inertia of the oceans suggest that there is more warming in the pipeline.

Do not let the White House's bias and falsified documents with "scientists" and misbegotten half-truths fool you. Just as importantly, wouldn’t putting all that money wasted on a war to secure more oil pipes have been better used for education, health care, social security and research and development in alternative energy sources to get us OFF oil and OUT of the Middle East? Well, then all the oil investors would lose their power and greed. Exxon chairman Lee Raymond retired with a $400 MILLION DOLLAR PARACHUTE while Exxon recorded record profits in 2005. Here’s an ABC news link: http://www.abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=1841989 Instead of spreading lies and mistruths, educate yourself. I could run laps around on this topic, but for now digest this new information and read a little (well, ok, a lot) and we can wax poetic till I'm blue in the face. Good luck =)

  14. Cory, thank you from saving me the aggravation of re-educating Mark on his earth-is-flat... I mean, global warming is overrated viewpoint.

What you touched on. but only briefly, were the ice cores that show samples of the earth's atmosphere. You are correct, that most go back at least a thousand years, some, however go back hundreds of thousands of years, the longest showing not one but several ice ages in Earth's past. And every ice age is preceeded by a period of global warming.

And guess what? We're in that period right now.

So Mark, when you say something like we have only had thermometers since the 1700's, you are illustrating your ignorance of the scientific process is ways I could never accuse you of on my own.

Cory, you and I are in agreement on a very crucial point about all of this. Nature has a way to cleanse itself of species that have overstayed their welcome. We aren't destroying the world. The world is heartier than that.

The world - like a forest after a forest fire - will suffer a while, but after a few million years when we have wiped ourselves out, the earth will recover and life will begin evolving again to fill the niches left by our extinction as well as the thousands of species that we caused the extinction of.

My bet: The birds. They descended from dinosaurs and survived the mass extinction that killed off their cousins. They are the most diverse vertebrates on Earth today and let's not forget their cousins the dinosaurs dominated the planet for 160 million years. We've "dominated" the planet for about 20,000 years in comparison. Hmmmm, yeah, we're awesome huh?

My guess is that if you visit North America in about 150 million years from now, you'll find T-Rex-sized flightless birds roaming the landscape.

Silly skeptics and their notions of superiority in the face of nature.

  15. Oh Cory,

Your analysis is so transparent. I refuse to buy into your "the sky is falling" ideology, when it is so easily recognizable that you have your own very specific AGENDA. Your "especially America" comment exposes your true belief system. You believe that The United States is a "Criminal Enterprise" that WE are the BAD GUYS. Profits are BAD! and BIG OIL controls the WORLD. The TRUTH is...OPEC, The House of SAUD and Akmadinijad control the price of oil much more so then any evil American oil company. But that doesn't play with your "Blame America First" "The CIA Controls the World" conspiracy theories/beliefs.

You use "The Day After Tomorrow" as a reference in your argument! CLASSIC!!! Why are liberal commentators always using Hollywood and its ilk as actual proof of anything! IT'S MAKE-BELIEVE...it's PRETEND my FRIEND!

Silly boys that actual think they can control the WEATHER!

    This ain't the X-Men...and girls...your not STORM!

Wanna fear something boys: Fear radical islam and nuclear proliferation... Yes, i know its hard to shallow but there are REAL THREATS to humanity and western civilization and none of them require extra SPF.

ad hominem attacks i am sure will continue...
