One Night Only: Jake Gyllenhaal Does SNL
Jake Gyllenhaal arrived after a drag-tastic Saturday Night Live performance at Dock's Restaurant in New York City. If you haven't yet seen the opening monologue in all its glittering glory, feast your eyes (as long as it's still up):
Jennifer Hudson had better watch her back. (clip courtesy of virtual matter)

Jake's wardrobe was the topic of some discussion. He donned a black T-shirt that was most likely a shout-out to his young niece, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Saarsgard's daughter, Ramona. The other item of clothing folks are speculating about is a green and yellow jacket quite similar to one worn recently by a friend of Jake's. Make of the sartorial switcheroo what you will.

Could someone post the link to You Tube thing? Unfortunately, I never got to see it.

I particularly luved the revolutionary image of two cowgirliemen and their rapid, pitty pat applausssse style. How original! I guess Richard Simmons, Carson, and Amanda Lewhores were unavailable to sing backup, though. Tragic. And, who would have imagined that the song's line, "tear down the mountain" would ever refer to one called Brokeback? Annie Proulx and Ang Lee dared create a masterpiece that managed to move the earth in part because they totally ignored the association of men loving men with the rust-eaten, barbed wire lie of some kind of half man/half woman. What homophobic fools they apparently are.
But, hey, this "unique audience" member can count the votes and get when his is the minority perspective. Speaking of votes, will someone please forward this clip to Barney Frank or Tammy Baldwin. No doubt they'll want to show it during the upcoming Congressional debate on ENDA and the federal hate crimes bill.

C'mon, have none of you ever shared your track jacket with your Personal Assistant?
Except for having neither the jacket nor the assistant ...
Who are we talking about here? Jake who?

Love Jakey's singing, but was he singing for real? or just lip-synching? Does anyone know?

Leland - thank you for the dissenting voice here.
I love Jake, and found the sketch amusing but ultimately insulting. Effeminate cowboys. Lumping all fans of Brokeback as showtune/drag queen loving trifles. Heck, I even found it insulting that he insinuated that all fans of Brokeback are gay men.
I know it's comedy, and yes I have a sense of humor. But I'm not a fan of lowest-common-denominator comedy based on tired stereotypes.
All that said: I was VERY impressed with Jake's voice. Too bad it was wasted on dreck.

Forget Jake! I thought the background singers were fucking HILARIOUS!

I too am one of those people who do not really appreciate cheap, stereotypical jokes at the expense of us gays. But as the old saying goes, there is a time and a place for everything. Jakie's opening number was absolutely hysterical, and had my partner's and my usually PC asses in an uproar of laughter.

How long are you guys gonna fawn over this guy? Brokeback Mountain is done and over with and Jake seems pretty done and over it too. It's kinda weird...posting on his every move. He's not gay or bi it seems, and even if he is(when the last we heard of Toothy Tile?), it doesnt look like he'll be coming out anytime in the near future. So why cling to a movie role he took on one or two(how long has it been exactly? who cares) years ago?

I looooove Jakie.

Fangirlhater you are appropriately named. You fail utterly to understand the significance of Brokeback Mountain to many of us who knew or were some aspects of these charaters as well as admiring the artistic achievement. Jake's superb acting was one reason that the film continues to resonate with so many of us. In addition, Jake is not only a beautiful man but abundantly talented and he seems to be a geunine and genuinely nice person. Why don't you get over your obsession and leave us to ours?

Jake, you done good, when is your new movie coming out?

I have nothing against showgirls, and the skit was funny I guess, but it's not my thing. I do however wish they hadn't stereotyped all gay guys as drag queens/wannabes etc.

Great job Jake. He's definitely got a sense of humor and most definitely comfortable in his own skin. Gay, str8 or bi....I could care less.....it's all good in my book.

Oh Jake.....he's just a burst of fresh Ocean mist on my face and neck. His eyes are so dreamy too and they just make me melt like ice cream.

It's hard to believe it has been almost a year since we've seen Jake...Loved this clip! BBM still rules in my book!

The simple fact that Jake accepted the role of Jack Twist in Brokeback Mountain in a homophobic society makes it relevant!!! He is still employable in Hollywood and his "gay" role did NOT end his career!
Rudy, I could not agree with you more my friend, and fangirlhater, bitter party of one available.

Jake was fearless. I'm so proud of him. Jake is fierce. And what a set of pipes that man has! Someone put him in a musical NOW. (And please don't get me started on those incredible biceps.) I think it's a momentous occasion when an actor of Jake's stature can embrace his gay admirers at a time when TR Knight and Neil Patrick Harris, being pushed out of the closet not of their own choosing, can hold down their jobs playing str8 characters while closeted actors and singers continue to hide behind doors in a vain attempt to hold onto a fan base ... and I won't mention any names (Clay, Jared, Tom).
People such as Isaiah Washington are not homophobic; they are heterosexist. Phobias are the result of mental and/or physical diseases. "Isms" are the result of learned behavior, i.e. racism, ageism. "Isms" equal bigotry, and bigotry was something that should have been discarded in the 19th Century. Mr.Washington has exhibited heterosexism; after all, if TR - or anyone else on the "Grey's Anatomy" set - had uttered the N word, he would have been up in arms and unleashing his attorneys. Ok, ABC, fire that stupid spewing fucker already. And, NBC, thank you for Jake!

I never saw the attraction of SNL. I admire Jake for this - very brave - but I don't find it funny ... maybe because I'm English.
