From the band's website:
"We live not too far from the chemical plants in Baytown and sometimes being so close to that kind of industry creates intense self-reflection, which is what we are all about."
LOL It also apparently creates some curious approaches to mental stability.
Is this thing for real -- I'm really wondering now...

Some of you must agree that Sufjan Stevens under gay bands is simultaneously hilarious and kinda sexy. This guy _has_ to be a joke!

I liked "I'm On My Knees for Jesus" a lot better. It's from the debut CD "I Found Jesus so I want Sodomy no gayMOREah"

well andy (I love you), just made this 'band' a few bucks.

I'm pretty sure this is a parody site. I mean, look at the link to safe vs gay bands.
Safe:

Gay:

LOL

Totally ironic e-performance art - I'm surprised wired, wise queers aren't the first ones to get the joke!

I'm leaning towards parody. C'mon the music is so buttery sweet and the lyrics are so ugly. Gotta be parody. I think it's fantastic either way. If it's a joke, it's pretty damn close to the real thing. If it's not, well it's like Phelps himself - great PR for equal rights.
One of the reasons I thought it COULD be for real is the singer's appearance. I've never seen an ex gay who had any sex appeal or charm. It's like ex gay = never got laid anyway. JMHO.

Hey, aren't those Gucci shoes that he's wearing in the beginning of the video? Please, Mary, you aren't kidding us. And what's up with the lyric, "Righteous man, get on your knees"? I don't this he's telling the guy to get down and pray, if you know what I mean...

Has to be a joke, doesn't pass the smell test, so to speak.

I'm usually the bitch here-but I do think this is a parody site. Str8s could not be that damn funny.
Posted by: Andrew | Jan 23, 2007 3:20:25 PM
I agree with "Gay is the new straight". Reviewing the website reveals that it's either really, really good parody, or the guy's an idiot. I guess calling Oscar Wilde a "reformed homosexual" is apt if you mean his being a broken man after his inprisonment (Which Donnie does not appear to advocate, but does not think is an entirely bad idea.).
I am disappointed that Olivia Newton-John is not listed in the "gay bands" since I think that watching Xanadu made me gay.

the one nice thinng about him and all the other bible thumping neo-cons out there is that they never seem to realize that if we're fated to burn in hell for our beliefs, our love, our sex and our hearts. Their hatred and pointless indignation will have them sweating to the oldies right next to us.
I'm going to heaven. I'm joining God in his everlasting glory. and if I don't, let's make a pact...
nobody touches this fat, greasy pig for eternity.

Seems almost like a joke, but played very straight (haaa!). "Help me fight these feelings" does not jive with "only a choice". Odd either way. Kind of creepy-funny. Guy at console is way-hot.
Posted by: Anon | Jan 23, 2007 3:32:45 PM
It must be a parody. Cyndi Lauper is listed as safe music.
Posted by: GM | Jan 23, 2007 3:33:32 PM
FOLKS FOLKS FOLKS--There is nooo waaay this is real. We're being punked. They have it at Gawker too, and there is NO WAY this is for real. I don't know who's behind this (ahem!), but it's a big, big joke.

Has no one noticed the Psychedelic Furs' reference on their MySpace page?

Posted by: craig | Jan 23, 2007 3:39:46 PM
That was beyond repulsive.
I can't access their sites, were they hacked already?
Posted by: Da | Jan 23, 2007 3:42:49 PM
If it means anything-the website they show start/finish has been shut down as of 20 minutes ago.
Posted by: Andrew | Jan 23, 2007 3:43:01 PM
WOW, internet is crazy (HEHE). Over 50,000 hits the site, and they shut down.
Posted by: Andrew | Jan 23, 2007 3:44:56 PM
Was that a tumbleweed?
Posted by: Andrew | Jan 23, 2007 3:48:09 PM
There's a big fight in the comments over at YouTube on whether or not this is real. I'm not sure, to be honest. What makes me think it's real is the website; usually somewhere on a parody like that there's one link that tells you what the makers really think, lest people get the wrong idea. What makes me think it's fake is the word "hate". Christians never say they hate gay people, and they'd never say God hates anybody either. But it's still really hard to tell.
