Where's Obama: Character Assassination or Honest Mistake?

Wheresobama_1In case you missed it, here's the screenshot that caused such a fuss during Wolf Blitzer's The Situation Room yesterday.

No doubt the MSM's labeling of Republicans as Democrats several times during the run-up to November elections have everyone on alert for this kind of stuff, but this one seemed just a bit egregious. Considering the right wing has been trying to make hay out of the fact that the Illinois Senator's middle name is Hussein, I think his camp handled it with class.

Blitzer: "We want to apologize for that bad typo. We also want to apologize personally to Sen. Barack Obama. I'm going to be making a call to him later this morning to offer my personal apology."

Obama secretary Tommy Vieto, after accepting apology: "Though I'd note that the `s' and `b' keys aren't all that close to each other, I assume it was just an unfortunate mistake, and don't think there was any truly malicious intent."

  1. Wasn't it mostly Republicans (Mark Foley) being labeled as Dems?

  3. CNN and Fox News do this too often it seems. These channels have gone from news reporting to being editorials. Just report the facts and let me decide.

  4. This is the start of trying to bring him down. They are starting to get scared because they thought he was just going to be a flash but he is proving to have real merit and they don't have anything on him to bring him down. This is only the beginning.

  5. This is a great example of why Obama is an unrealistic candidate for the Democratic Party. As an Australian observer of U.S politics,I can't help but shake my head in disbelief at the notion that the general public are going to be willing to elect a black President.(This from a country where black visibility in something as lowbrow and harmless as t.v sitcoms is woefully inadequate.Get real. The public might just accept a women if you're lucky.

  6. Too funny! These jokes have been all over conservative radio for months now. His name is a liability however unfair that is.

  7. A big to-do over nothing...

The fact that Barack Obama has been in the news so much lately, and that (yes, unfortunately) his last name sounds like, and is spelled very similarly to, "Osama" means this was very likely just a careless mistake.

  9. Altho it's true "b" and "s" aren't very close on the keyboard, as Mr. Vieto says, they're often linked in politics....
