road.jpg Colombian Constitutional Court rules that same-sex couples should have the same property rights as heterosexual couples: "The decision applies to those who have been living together for two years. A gay rights group, which had sought the clarification from the court, said at least 100,000 couples would benefit. A court source said it did not mean same-sex civil unions - which are part of a bill currently being debated in Congress - had been approved."

Shirleyroad.jpg GLAAD condemns Shirley Q. Liquor: "While our work at GLAAD is about promoting fair, accurate and inclusive media representations of the LGBT community, this issue has risen to a level of visibility and importance that we feel compelled to add our voice to those speaking out against this awful portrayal. Based on what we have heard from community members and read about this character, we are joining those taking a stand against Knipp's offensive caricature. We recognize that this performer has a right to free speech and expression, but we also have the right to condemn his performance and speak out against this harmful depiction."

road.jpg Mitt Romney to announce Presidential bid next week in Michigan: "Romney is seeking to convince the GOP's conservative flank, whose support is pivotal in GOP presidential nomination contests, that he shares their values and stands with them on social issues, including abortion and gay marriage. But he's been forced to explain inconsistencies in his record from when he ran as a moderate in his two previous campaigns -- a successful bid for Massachusetts governor in 2002 and an unsuccessful challenge to U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, a liberal icon, in 1994. Romney supported abortion rights until two years ago, when he says he had a change of heart during a legislative debate on stem cell research. He has also taken positions sympathetic to gay rights in the past, although he opposes gay marriage."

  2. What's the Pete Wentz story? It goes to penguins.

  4. I am confused...How do these barrier breaking and socially respected penguins relate to Pete Wentz's ratings of anal sex?

I read your posts every day, please advise.

  5. Sorry guys, fixed it. I really doubt Pete Wentz is into anal sex with penguins, but you never know...

  6. I got to vouch for the sniffing of sweaty armpits. When I am stressed out, a sniff of my own or my partner's would defuse the stress to nothingness.. hmm armpits... the new valium.. yea... cheap and sexy

  7. I'm so excited POS Romney is returning to our fair, Great Lakes State! Like we don't have enough trouble as it is, right now!

  8. And I can vouch for sex with penguins.

  9. I think I like the penguin story better. Wentz doesn't say if he gives or receives anal or if it is specifically with women or ... eh who cares anymore.

  10. I'll admit, I don't know the first thing about Shirley Q. Liquor, but..."Based on what we have heard...and read..."? If you're going to condemn something, maybe just a smidge of first-hand information would be nice.

  11. As someone who works for M&M, I can assure you that the company (internally) is pissed with the amount of bad press we've received from the Gay & Lesbian community. While this company is far from being perfect, they would NEVER risk profits to send out such a political message. That much is for sure.

  12. I agree with Andy---armpits are it.

  13. I love "Desperate Housewives of O.C." Can't get over the fact that these people actually signed on to be covered in such a manner.

    Highlights:

Laura (horseface 45 year old): Never has there been a woman with such a pathetic life (children are horrific), gold-digging ambition and plastic surgery overload.

Slade (hot mess of a confused hetrosexual): He's truly one of the most shallow-minded men I've ever seen on ANY TV program. His desire for Jo (possibly ex-girlfriend as of this past week) has more to do with his own need for validation than it does for being in love. So selfish and such a mess, I love it!

Jo (cute girl that thinks she's prettier than we all know she really is): This is one girl who will go far on personality, if not looks. While not ugly, she talks about modeling as if she could be one. Maybe for Fredrick's of Hollywood. Otherwise, she looks like a girl from the hood with a bit of extra-spunk. With Slade because it affords her a lifestyle she would never have without him. We all make our choices.

Everyone else: Not important enough for me to remember their names. All road kill on this program. Can't wait for next week's episode.

  14. Regarding Shirley Q, GLAAD writes "Based on what we have heard from community members and read about this character, we are joining those taking a stand against Knipp's offensive caricature."

Does that mean they haven't actually heard the routines? Shirley is pro-homo, and often hilarious. Granted, I have't heard any of Shirley's stuff in years, but they should track the Shirley history before they condemn.

This is not the 1830's blackface and it shouldn't be considered as such. This is farce. It is mocking stereotypes. The key word GLAAD seems to miss is "caricature."

"My Name Is Earl" is much more derogatory to uneducated poor folks, but it's a hit show.

Most importantly, Shirley Q. is just funny. And any good comedic drag should should be at least slightly offensive to the uptight.

Next thing you know pot won't even be able to call the kettle black.

  15. Shirley Q is hysterical. Knipp is in on the joke and is not malicious in his depiction. What he's doing is not so different from people like Roseanne Barr serving up "white trash" humor. It's satire. It's funny because it plays on stereotypes, and the audience can figure that out.

The issue is that he's a white man reflecting the types of southern women he grew up with, who happened to be black. I understand GLAAD's point of view in this case, but I don't agree with it (shocker).

    Posted by: Dean | Feb 8, 2007 1:21:09 PM

  16. That's correct, Willo. The pot should not call the kettle anything at all. The pot should never speak about it or try to open a coversation or debate about the differences, and shove any conflict it feels deep into its psyche where it can simmer and fester while living in a victorian-minded society. Then again, perhaps the pot could simply try to peacefully co-exist with the kettle, accept that they are different, make a nice comment now & then like "nice handle" and get on with it.

  17. Dean and Willo, I totally agree with both of you. However, given our culture's reactionary nature, I thin that we're in the minority.

    Posted by: Brian | Feb 8, 2007 1:30:35 PM

  18. Thank you GLAAD for telling me what is offensive and what I should or should not watch. I've always wanted a nanny. Idiots.

  19. I have to say I find GLAAD to be more and more inconsistent since the board appointed Neil Guiliano, an avowed Republican, to lead the organization. Certainly, their effectiveness and relevance have been greatly diminished.

Where were they a few days ago regarding the Snickers commercials? It clearly was a media issue and yet GLAAD remained silent. It was HRC who demanded Snickers remove the ad.

A further point to their growing ineffectiveness, in regard to the Isaiah Washington incidents, GLAAD wasn’t even able to tackle the issue by themselves as they would have in the past; they required the help, once again, of HRC.

And perhaps their most baffling and incompetent inaction was the choice to remain silent over the Mark Foley scandal. At a time when newscasters and political pundits, such as Pat Buchanan, were connecting pedophilia to homosexuality, describing Foley as a “flamer,” and saying Pelosi and Kerry marched in gay pride parades alongside NAMBLA, GLAAD issued a statement saying that the were choosing to remain silent so as to not fuel the fire. Fuel the fire? That’s their job. In fact, as a not-for-profit media watchdog organization, donors are contributing money to GLAAD with the expectation GLAAD will speak out against defamatory statements- NOT remain silent. It makes you wonder whether Neil is a friend of Mark Foley and that their relationship has clouded his judgment. Or perhaps Neil was more concerned about losing the House and Senate then to making sound choices in the best interest of the GLBT community. Or perhaps the new base of Gay Republican donors are expecting him to back off any Republican based issues. Any way- his inaction was grossly negligent.

  20. Doesn't GLAAD have better shit to worry about than this? Did all of the discrimination and violence against gays suddenly stop and no one bother to tell the rest of us?
P.S. Shirley Q is funny you GLAAD twats.

  21. "This is not the 1830's blackface and it shouldn't be considered as such. This is farce."

Now that's funny. Sorry it is blackface. Now if you want to say it's just farce, cool (I'll disagree of course), but not to call Knipp's routine blackface is a bit ahistorical.

    Posted by: James | Feb 8, 2007 1:43:12 PM

  22. I agree, I think Shirley is hilarious. Knowing that Knipp's material is drawn from people whom he is/was close with in his southern upbringing proves to me that he's not intending to be malicious. I also think it's funny when Dave Chappelle put on "white face" on his Comedy Central program and enacted the nerdy stereotypical white persona. People need to lighten up a bit.

    Posted by: Matt | Feb 8, 2007 1:43:19 PM

  23. I love Shirley Q. I was introduced to her by my first boyfriend. I find it funny. I agree with Matt that it is just like Dave Chappelle doing white face. I mean all drag is somewhat offense. Even Rupaul thinks she is okay.

    Posted by: Matt | Feb 8, 2007 1:52:01 PM

  24. Knipp alleges he knew black women with 49 kids, on welfare and with names of STD's, somehow, that does not seem like the real world .I doubt that he or any of his fans have even met a real black woman and actually sat down and talked to her. Its good Glaad came out, as one person offended is one too many. The same ones who were offended by Isaiah Washington, are also the same ones who find black face acts funny, talk about a contradiction. Stereotypes against anyone, and slurs are wrong, no matter who is doing them, and it has nothing to being PC, as well know, PC just does not work in this country, where people will heckle and make fun of anyone, and when they get called to the carpet on it, they and their fans are mad.

And, after seeing the stuff he peddles, he may be as funny as hell to some, but, form his shilling to his fans, he and they must be racists. And, he is free to do his act as much as he wants, but, why the need with black paint smeared on his face? And, the comparison to Chappelle, as vile as his brand of humor is/was, even he realized he was hurting people with his nasty stereotypes, and stopped it. Sometimes common decency should prevail, so, good for Glaad, Chuck and Paris and Isaiah, all the bigots out.

  25. Ok so first off.....the picture of Pete from FOB is just one of several he took of himself and sent to some girl...the rest are of his cock...the last one of him holding his cock...their on www.thesuperficial.com....hilarious...

two...Shirley Q. is soooo funny...why does everything have to be seen as an attack or degradation...stereotypes exist because truth exists in them...the one of the flaming club queen with the high pitched voice and lisp is a stereotype of gay men....it's also not inaccurate....how many times have we all been out at a club and seen that guy....or the angry man hating dyke at the home depot...and yes I used to live in Atlanta and while Shirley Q. is an exaggeration their are black welfare mothers with kids named Alize and Porsche...I’ve seen the act and the audience full of white and black people and everyone was laughing…we all need to breath…

hyper vigilance is the new black….I’m over it….
