I have watched three episodes of the Discovery Channel's Planet Earth. One word: Breathtaking. Simple as that. Don't miss it.

Terrible situation Cory was placed in. He did the right thing by exposing discrimination.
Planet Earth has amazing cinematography. I kept wondering how they got the shots. Biology documentaries will never be the same.

If you like what you're seeing on Planet Earth thus far, check out Blue Planet, a similar series that also began on the BBC and aired on the Discover Channel. It's the same team with similarly astonishing camera work. It's great to see that nature documentary has finally found away to convey the massive scale of ecosystems and animal populations.
How they got the shots? Thousands and thousands of hours filming in hundreds of locations over the course of 5 years.

This was the most popular thing on tv when it aired here (UK) a couple of years back.
The killer whale/seal shot will bring tears to your eyes; its sheer power, size and terrible beauty is more moving and awe-inspiring than anything man can possibly dream up.
This documentary shows you why we have no need of 'god'; the beauty, variety and complexity of evolution and nature is IT.

Atheist
"Here here" on your statement. ^5
I would also throw in, who needs a club med in the clouds to make one feel important. To just know that one's molecules will recycle through so much amazing and beautiful life is enough.

Re: Planet Earth... it should be noted that the US version has different narration and each episode is 10+ minutes shorter. Critics (such as Time Out NY) are saying it's vastly inferior to the BBC airing. Consider waiting for the BBC blu-ray/hd-dvd releases on 4/24/07 which Netflix will undoubtedly carry.

The American version is edited? That's a load of suck...they didn't do that with Blue Planet. Who would choose Sigourney Weaver over David Attenborough? Think I'll be pre-ordering the BBC version and holding my breath until April 24.

I'd choose Sigourney over Attenborough! Just because he has a British accent...jeez. I love Siggy.
And I love Keith O.!

It's not uncommon for the BBC to use American voice overs for their U.S. release. I think it's kind of silly too. When "Walking With Dinosaurs" came out in the U.K. it was (I think) Kenneth Branagh voicing it, and when it was released in the states, it became Avery Brookes. Personally, I preferred the copy written for Brookes, though I always prefer a British accent for some reason.

Sounds like the White House is at again. Censorship and control is what the White House wants and will get. Remembering that the media is controlled by big business and they will tell them what to report and only when it is a win win situation for the USA.
Just a thought.

I love me some Lara Logan!! Count me among the "lesbians" with a crush!

That Lara Logan clip may be "old" but it's relevant as the White House is still pushing the talking point that we only hear bad news coming from Iraq. Every time they send out Laura Bush, that's the talking point she is given. And the despotic Mugabe in Zimbabwe this week blamed foreign journalists for reporting only the "bad" news from his country. So that Lara Logan clip needs to be seen far and wide, including Howie Kurtz' loathsome attempt to undercut Lara by getting in some support for Laura Ingraham. Really, I'm amazed Logan hasn't been canned fron CNN yet for being too good.

The program seems cool enough, but who knew ol' mother nature could be edited into the latest Mel Gibson action flick? Bah to commercials like that.
