American Idol Part 2: Blake, Simon, Lakisha
American Idol did return to the unadulterated fluff we've come to expect from it last night, however, with its most engaging show of the season.
With Sanjaya gone from the picture, other sets of hair were able to take the spotlight.
Highlights included the removal of contestant Blake Lewis' highlights as he went from blonde to brunette and rocked the house with a version of Bon Jovi's "You Give Love a Bad Name".
Randy Jackson called it the most original version of a song ever on the show.
And then there was the kiss. Notice that puckered Paula seems to want in on the action too.
Close-up after the jump...

Seriously, Blake was AMAZING last night.

who is that hussy kissing my man!?!?!

Remember that little girl losing her marbles for Sanjaya? That was me after Blake's performance last night.

From the very beginning it has been about Blake for me, but last night he gave the most electrifying performance of Season 6. Seriously, he brought the show back to life. Blake is not the strongest vocalist (that honor would belong to Melinda), but he is definitely the most entertaining...and that, to me, is what an Idol really is. Chris Daughtry came in 4th place last season but has emerged as the biggest seller... I think that will be Blake's path.

Once again the show will probably produce a "winner" who doesn't sell records and runners-up that do.

I didn't really like Blake's beat-boxing last night but damn... he is just completely adorable. I could spread that boy on a cracker. *sigh*
But again Melinda was my favorite last night. I will definitely be buying her album when it comes out.

Melinda #1
lakisha #2
Blake #3 You guys do know beat boxing went out decades ago right? Hell, you all will be wanting to wear parachute pants again with those funky kung fu slippers and thin leather ties and your hair sprayed up like a fan in the front of your heads. Ughhhhhhhhh
Jordan the religous fundie nut,
nasal boy, and baldy #4-#5-#6 and 2 of these 3 are going home tonight

Beatboxing went out of style? Really??????? OMG I just sent my check to Beatbox Quarterly all for nothing!
Meh, who cares. He's still an artist.

hey pacific, last i checked his majesty, i can do no wrong timberlake, beat boxes now and then. i believe he brought it back along with sexy.
and who cares. he can sing well (it's all about studio work anyways, i love kelly but she can't sing live nearly as well as her albums sound), and he's SO F-ING CUTE!

nosferatu is going home tonite.
blake is great despite his vintage beatboxing, and should place 2nd behind dynamo dolittle.

Can we vote on how good looking they all are? I think I could guess who'd win.

I would watch the show if everyone were as entertaining as Blake... I just youtube his performances.
I know he isn't everyones cup of tea, but damn this boy can perform and knows how to keep the crowd engaged. Never a dull moment with him.

That was a quite good indeed, but Sanjaya is still better. And I'm not even kidding..
I find most singers on AI this year lack a bit of personality and dramatic flair, which is what made the likes of Katharine McPhee and Fantasia so great.

NY and justin all illusion of a pr firm and little talent just hosted the kids choice awards because??? He is desperate for gigs. He ain't all that, not someone to hold up as a symbol of artistic talent.
Mark M,I didn't say i didn't like Blake. I actualy do like Blake's singing when he doesn't beat box. his cover a few weeks ago of a Cure song was way better than his out of date beat boxing
The beat boxing sucks.
All the cool african american kids are laughing their asses off over whitey beat boxing 2 decades too late.

The beat boxing was done well, whether you like that style of music or not.
What I found more interesting was that his whole performance was a *very* Justin Timberland-ish - too much so to be coincidental knockoff.

I feel like Blake is "Futuresex/Lovesounds" Justin Timberlake and Chris is "Justified" Justin Timberlake/Kevin Federline lookalike-ish.
Thoughts?

@pacificoceanboy: Are you on glue?
Posted by: bizasizzalizzyizzo | May 2, 2007 9:24:18 PM
biza if you are one of the ones who thinks beat boxing lasted longer than the 80's then you must be
Posted by: pacificoceanboy | May 2, 2007 9:55:50 PM
Ps
0r if you think justin hosting a show that only 10 year old white girls watch is a sign of artistic talent then again you must be on something harder than glue

Face it, the only thing that sells better than sex is recycled, ironic-ish nostalgia.
Look at what it's done for American Apparel & hipsters in general. Hell, eBay was founded on the notion of buying stuff that reminds people of their lost childhood.
If Madonna has been allowed to record after '89 then he can beatbox all he wants.

i cringe every time i watch blake. honestly. simon's comment that half the audience loves it and half the audience hates it is true.
beat boxing isn't going to sell records.
ps, justin t may beatbox, but its not huge for him, it doesn't sell his records.
pss, beat boxing will be as old as "i am bring sexy back" as a phrase in a quick minute.

Good point
I guess I will grab some parachute pants
Posted by: pacificoceanboy | May 2, 2007 11:07:53 PM
Well, now he's the only guy left in the competition.

Beatboxoing never dies-
It just finds new artists to make it relevant again by finding its time of the season
Posted by: foxydoxy | May 3, 2007 2:01:28 AM
Foxy that might be true if african american artists revived it, but when it is just 2 cheesy little white boys playing to 10 year old white girls.....LOL It is not relevant again. It is a joke
