sometimes you gotta wonder why she doesn't just Garbo.

OMG! Thanks! I hadn't even heard about this. I'm a bad, bad Madge fan.

Producer Pharrell Williams continues to surpise as this doesn't sound like anything he's done before. That said, it's co-produced by Madonna, and Madonna being Madonna, I get the feeling that she had a lot of input. (A LOT of input, if you get my drift.)
PS, The overall structure of "Hey You", with its predictable middle 8 (aka "bridge"), makes the result feel by-the-numbers. These two powerhouses could have done a better job, creatively.

Thanks for the heads up!

Ugh, that song sucks hard.

Those who like madonna already are probably suporters of the need for something to be done about the environment. Those that despise her generaly are the ones who think the enviornment is some kind of a commie conspiracy. Her efort will not help the cause/ will not help to reach those people. There are some people who should not be allowed to become the public face/faces of certain causes. One could also argue that she would look less like a hypocrite if her large estate was allowed to grow wild with trees instead of sectioned off for horse pastures and runs. The pimping of magic religion coo coo water "khabala water" in all those plastic bottles (if not properly recycled will last thousands upon thousands of years in land fills) also marks her out as a bad person to rep enviro issues. I like a lot of madona's work, but there are just some people who should not be invited into the spotlight on some issues.

Who is Madonna? I need to google her and see if I recognize anything she sings.

Could not disagree with you more. The vast majority of Madonna's fanbase are 30-something soccer moms who grew up in the 80s, now drive gas-guzzling SUVs, have 2.5 kids and could care less about the environment. As for her gay following, they're primarily circuit queens too busy planning for their next party than doing anything for the environment.

thanks for the free song, but it is really awful. She is such a big mega star, so why couldn't she do a better job.'They'll dance to anything...'

I like it and make no apologies.

It sounds like the runner-up to a high school Earth Day song writing competition. I'm just sayin. . . . .

A clunker... I'm sad to say.

I always knew it would happen someday. She'd have to give her music away. I guess that time has come!

No, but thanks for offering.

I love Madonna like crazy, but ouch. Just ouch.

So many bitchy comments about Madonna from gay men. Such a surprise...not. People who dislike Madonna will hate anything she does.
I think the song is really beautiful, and showcases her voice in a great way. I also love the fact that it's a charity single to benifit "Live Earth", which is a great cause for the environment. I doubt the song will go down as a future Madonna classic, but it certainly won't go down as her worst (american life).
It always surprises me how Madonna inspires such derision among certain gay men, when she's spent her entire giving us more props ands, showcasing the best of our creativity than any of the other so called icons ever did. I guess if she was a tragic mess, she'd get more respect though.
As for the uninformed person up thread who claimed her fanbase was made up of circuit queens, and soccer moms, they obviously didn't see her # 1 tour last year. Her fanbase is both worldwide and incredibly diverse.

Actually, Michael, I did see her last tour. In fact, I've been to her last 3 shows. I own nearly all her albums, consider Ray of Light to be one of the top five greatest albums ever recorded, and think of myself as a big fan.
That said, this song sucks.
What's really not surprising is that there are shallow men like you who defend any product an artist releases with no accounting for its individual merit simply because you worship them like an idol.
It's ok to like Madonna. But at least try to be objective about it.

The commentary is nearing Perez Hilton status. Why all of the negativity?
It's a nice song, it's pretty catchy and it has a nice message.

Hey you...it's back to the drawing board. Oh, and no more Sanjaya medleys.
America has voted.
Heat the post, CHRISB.

*Heart*...I meant heart.
ugh

While I love her dearly, I realize that songs with this message are hard to churn out. An "Imagine" or "We Are The World" comes along as often as Haley's Comet. Well, she's halfway there. Getting Pharell to sound nothing like himself deserves a Grammy.

Can't say I liked that. Deleted it off my hard drive after one listen. :o(

For chrisb,
I never said you or anyone else had to like this track. What I was commenting on was the knee jerk negative reactions by some people to anything Madonna does. I could could personally care less whether you saw all of her tours, or thought "ray of light" was the greatest record ever. Whatever.
As far am me being "shallow", how the fuck did you come to that conclusion? I happen to like the song, and it doesn't make me shallow. Madonna is a great artist, but there is no denying she has crap material in her catalog. Opinions are like assholes, and yours is no more valid than mine or anyone elses.
Posted by: michael | May 17, 2007 7:48:29 PM
excuse me SILVERSKREEN but imagine = we are the world?? NO! Madge's song is better than "we are the whatever"....so isnt Nicole Richies last queef!
