road.jpg Michigan Supreme Court to decide whether or not partners of gays and lesbians employed by public universities and state and local governments should be able to receive health benefits: "The appeals court in February cited Michigan's 2004 voter-approved constitutional amendment against gay marriage — which makes the union between a man and woman the only agreement recognized as a marriage "or similar union for any purpose" — as also barring domestic partner benefits for the same-sex partners of public employees."

Hammerheadroad.jpg Immaculate conception: Hammerhead shark gives birth having had no contact with males. "This form of asexual reproduction, called parthenogenesis, has been found in other vertebrate species, including some snakes and lizards. But this is the first time it has been documented in a shark."

road.jpg Attorney General Alberto Gonzales may have obstructed justice as recently as March by attempting to "shape" Monica Goodling's testimony before the congressional hearings.

road.jpg "Bridal shop" for gays opens in Barcelona. Owner: "I saw the opportunity to do business after the law was approved. I didn't know of any other country that had a shop or boutique for gay weddings. It will be an exclusive and personal product for a special day. It was obvious that gays, who also marry, needed their own bride shop."

road.jpg As Connecticut awaits gay marriage decision, the noise does not subside: "Motorists sounded their horns in support of the gay rights activists in front of the state Supreme Court today. They were trying to influence the seven justices inside who are contemplating whether or not to give same sex couples full marriage rights under the state's civil unions law. A much larger crowd across the street at the state capitol celebrated the withdrawal of a same sex marriage bill from the general assembly but members of the Family Institute of Connecticut are still fearful that the state Supreme Court will make it happen without the legislature as happened in Massachusetts."

  1. That is so cool to me about the shark. I bet Lesbians will start evolving to do this. That hammerhead in the picture sure does look similar to a bonnethead shark though. I wonder if the NYT used the wrong pic. It wouldn't be the first time they goofed.

  2. parthenogenesis is very interesting

    Virgin mary anyone?

If she even existed though it was more likely a young jewish girl just couldn't keep her legs closed so with neighbors who didn't even take baths back then "Oh yeah, an angle of the lord......." Heck they wiped their butts with their hands after pooping . There was a jewish law on what hand to wipe with and what hand to eat with. With neighbors like that she could have said she was a little tea pot and they probably would have held out cups to her around 4:00 (high tea time)

  8. Look like My Pretty Pony EDWARDS doesn't like the gays: from a Washington Post Article:

    By Politics
    Thursday, May 24, 2007; A09

Robert Shrum, the veteran Democratic strategist who worked on John Edwards's 1998 Senate campaign in North Carolina, does not remember his onetime client very fondly.

In his new memoir, "No Excuses: Concessions of a Serial Campaigner," Shrum recalls asking Edwards at the outset of that campaign, "What is your position, Mr. Edwards, on gay rights?"

"I'm not comfortable around those people," Edwards replied, according to Shrum. He writes that the candidate's wife, Elizabeth, told him: "John, you know that's wrong."

OHHH "those people" how PC of the little pony.

  9. "A much larger crowd across the street at the state capitol celebrated the withdrawal of a same sex marriage bill..."

I find it amazing that anti-gay people are so much more energized, organized and active in fighting to limit and deny OTHER people rights than gay people are in fighting to protect and promote OUR OWN.

They seem to have no trouble in rounding up thousands, on any given day, at any given place, to rally AGAINST giving us rights or to rally FOR taking away our rights, but we are at pains to get fifty people to show up at anything that doesn't involve a mindless party.

I'm afraid that until we as a community find a way to be as passionate and concerned about our rights as our enemies are, we are doomed to remain second class citizens sitting on the sidelines bitching and moaning about our lot and whining about what victims we are.

  11. parthenogenesis is a fascinating phenomenon. One interesting aspect is that the offspring can only contain the genetic material of the mother. I don't know about sharks, but let's deal w/ humans: generally, we're XX (female) or XY (male). If parthenogenesis were to happen in female humans, only female offspring would result.

Not all species follow the XX/XY pattern for sex determination, so in other species you might see male AND female offspring arise.

    Neat stuff.

  12. Zeke true

BUT a large percentage of their numbers are their underage kids dragged along with them. 5 kids dragged (because many of them don't like birth control either)against their will with only 2 actual voting age adults isn't as scarry.

Especialy when all the newest polls show that 1 out of every 3 evangelicals under 30 do not fear gay marriage where as those over 30 is only 1 out of 10. Those kids they drag along and inflate their crowds aren't going to be as gung ho as the parents to deny us our rights.

A glimmer of a silver lining

  13. "They seem to have no trouble in rounding up thousands, on any given day, at any given place, to rally AGAINST giving us rights or to rally FOR taking away our rights"

Don't forget those massive mega-attended country clubs called Baptist churches. Gays don't have massive social gatherings on a weekly basis like many of these evangelicals.

I think we should relocate the White Party to any political hotspot if we want thousands of gays to show up.

  14. @arron re:omaha

    them's fightin' words, boy.

just remember, without omaha, there'd be no malcolm x, marlon brando, henry fonda, fred astaire, elliott smith, andy roddick or wwf's 'million dollar man' ted dibiase.

  15. Mark M, exactly my point.

Perhaps if the right wing were trying to pass a law banning circuit parties and gay-la's we could get the 'mo masses mo' politically engaged.
