  1. Evasive/Double-talk

  2. Sorry Andy, but she's full of the same x-tian neo-con double talk that she always is. Rosie's positive/negative learning curve aside, she'd still see us marched off to the camps if the GOP decided that's what's best for the country.

The View no longer allows audience member guest hosts and I really wanted to be the one to publically demands that she put her money where her mouth is...

Her husband is healthy, physically fit and she makes enough money to support her burgeoning family; so why isn't he in Iraq dodging IED schrapnel??????? C'min Liz, publically name the recruitment center he'll be showing up at to support the Presidents war on oil.

  3. She's so nice and stupid. For a second there I thought she got what Wikle explained was the role of the courts to protect minorities against the will of the majority, but right at the end she goes back to, 'well, if that's what the people want through their laws... .'

I sometimes think that people like her need child-like diagrams, with big block letters spelling out the conclusion for each point they make, and then force them to determine if their positions are consistent and logical. It's amazing how she can bleat on about gay people she knows, and the injustices they face, and still trot out the activist judges talking point.

  4. Ya look like a maaaaaaan!

  5. "Activist judges"?

Anyone who willfully parrots the meaningless reductionism of the Christian Hate Industry is, I'm sorry, too retarded to have a voice in any debate or discussion. Get this woman back in the kitchen where her people think she belongs.

  6. It was interesting to watch Will quickly and easily eviscerate her silly little "activist judge" talking point, then listen to her talk out of both sides of her mouth. She's an unintelligent, uninsightful little sorority girl who's in over her head.

  7. No need to apologize to me, Lexxicuss. I'm certainly not trumpeting her progressiveness. She's a right wing tool as far as I'm concerned.

  8. She a frickin' tool!

  9. Maybe if we all stop caring what entertainers think about political matters, this wouldn't matter so much.

  10. Will did a great job, and made some good and smart points. It's shallow, I know, but I just had a hard time getting past his weird look.

Hasselbeck is so easily discredited it isn't even worth discussing.

  11. agreed brian -

he was so cute with short hair. his hair and outfit here make him look a bit like a stereotype as well as less professional.

  13. I think he looks really cool.

  14. I actually thought that the interview was well done, and that she came off pretty well. I sometimes think that we expect our view to be the only view, and when someone such as her comes part way frome where they were, we get mad because they didn't leap all the way over.

Conversations like this and interactions like those between she and Rosie over the last year mean more to our movement toward full civil rights that a bunch of activists screaming down those progressing toward us.

  15. The Republicans and the Democrats are no different. They are all liars and out for their own good. They say whatever the person who pays them enough (lobbying) wants them too. It's all about money. The person who will win the next presidential election will be the one who has the most money. MSNBC quoted the other day that the person who wins the presidency will have spent half a billion dollars to win.

To be honest, Americans really don't care about what's going on in Iraq. It's a third world country to them. They can't relate. We are just told to go on about our lives and not pay attention. We aren't asked to sacrifice anything like our fathers and mothers in WWII. We ignore the Geneva Conventions by calling them enemy combatants and not POW's. We keep them in another country (cuba) so they are even farther out of the American mind.

And to me why the debate on Gay marriage is so fierce in this country is to keep the eyes off the real problems in both parties.

Sorry I just had to go on a little tirade about how I felt.

  16. Elizabeth Hasselbeck is a cock smooch. Plain and simple. And Will Wikle is a cootie pa tootie.

    Posted by: Blair | May 15, 2007 11:47:36 AM

  17. Alan and Matt, I couldn't agree more.

Andy, Happy Birthday and thank you for sharing the opinions of someone who most gay people see as an enemy. I'm not a big fan, but she speaks from a segment of the population that does exist - conservatives who do not see homosexuality as an abomination. A population that the gay movement should engage in furthering the cause. To simply denounce her and those like her as a farce is politically the wrong thing to do.

  18. "Maybe if we all stop caring what entertainers think about political matters, this wouldn't matter so much." Maybe if used your brain cells as much as your cell phone, Other Jeff, you would get that shows like this have the opportunity to either reinforce the status quo, in this case homohatred, or challenge and change it. YOU might not care what any public figure thinks, but the average American does. It wasn't perfect but Bravo to Wikle for trying to advance gay equality by going after not Hasslebeck but the three and half million people who typically watch every day.

And, Matt, please, please, PLEASE grow up! Statements like, "The Republicans and the Democrats are no different," are rankly stupid.

    Posted by: Leland | May 15, 2007 12:52:54 PM

  19. Ok, is she trying to be a fucking politician???? Is it possible for her to directly answer a question? Sorry, I'm no Rosie fan, but she should have killed this stupid bitch on the air. Forget sending her husband to Iraq, she needs to be put in harms way. RIGHT NOW! Oh and I really like that she referred to Rosie as one of her gay friends. Ugh, someone put an end to her please!

    Posted by: JR | May 15, 2007 1:24:40 PM

  20. Leland, please what's the difference? I'm already aware of the the thought that republicans hate gays and the democrats don't. Could you please argue another point?

    Posted by: Matt | May 15, 2007 1:24:45 PM

  21. After taking a moment to let go of some aggression, I just felt like saying that although I believe that everyone has the right to their own opinion, this stupid woman has held a platform (for reasons that are still a mystery to me) that enables her to pontificate about issues and ideas that I believe perpetuate harm and hateful ideology. Someone just please help me understand why she holds this position. Who is she? And please don't explain The View. Just the name of the show is an insult.

    Posted by: JR | May 15, 2007 1:37:49 PM

  22. I'm proud of Will for cleaning up. When he was on Big Brother he looked like a bum. Now he looks like a prince. I actually find him attractive now.

I think Elisabeth is uncomfortable talking about gay issues especially with a gay person. I don't think she believes gay people are equal to her or most other straight people. She satisfied with the status quo.

  23. Matt...got moral equilvalency?

Lets see, pro-gay bills approved by states with Democratic majorities this year:

    Iowa: anti-discrimination, education
    New Hampshire: civil unions
    Oregon: anti-discrimination, domestic partnerships
    Washington: domestic partnerships

Pro-gay bills approved by states with Republican majorities this year:

    ZERO

And the fact to the matter is, every year looks like this. To say that the Democrats and Republicans are the same is to live in some sort of political Disneyland, where reality is 'imagineered' instead of based on actual lawmaking (whicn is what we pay politicians to do).

  24. well i say good for her. the truest thing she said is that people who actually know gay people may change their attitudes and it's obvious that she's been going through that transformation. this interview can only influence her audience for the better .. isn't that what we want ?

Posted by: el polacko | May 15, 2007 2:42:55 PM

  25. A classic case of someone thinking one thing and saying another, and Wikle, who I applaud for his handling of this interview--truly deft--knew it and framed his questions and rebuttals accordingly. Good for him and shame on her--not for her views (she's entitled to those) but for her cowardice.
